Default Rough Idle help on 2000 y7

Hey folks, I'm new to the whole car scene and my first car project is a 2000 Civic. The car I got is a 2000 Civic ex with a y7 partial swap. The car did have the y8, but a previous owner had made the swap. I bought the car with a bad bogging issue when idling and coming in and out of first and second gears. Found out it had a y7 block, with y8 intake and tb. also had y8 ecu. I am aware that y8 had vtec, so I picked up a y7 intake with tb and ecu for y7 (p2e-a12). Car runs much better no bogging, but upon starting the car, it idles around 1200 rpm, and a few seconds later climbs to 2200. after that every few seconds it drops to around 1000 and then back to normal. the car doset set off the MIL, and voltage at iacv is there, and i havent found vacuum leak. Ive read about resetting ecu, but ive let it idle for 30 mins and it just fluctuates idling the whole time. Any advice appreaicated!

Mike

it's most likely a vac leak. What you can do is spray carb cleaner around mating surfaces, such as throttle body, intake manifold to head, map sensor, etc. If the car bogs down when you spray in a certain location, then you found the troubled area.

Try adjusting the idle,

Post the OBD2 CEL code.

FYI, CEL codes don't tell you that a sensor is bad, so buying a new IACV will not likely be money well spent.

After warming up the engine, remove air intake system.

Start engine. Does covering the throttle body hole leading to the IACV stop the hunting idle?

I was playing with that last night. I didn't ever fully cover it, not wanting the engine to die, but putting my hand over the whole tb, the engine would die. Mostly covering the tb hole for iac would drop the rpm and stop the hunting idle.

Start here:

Remove IACV and clean it throughly with brake or carburetor cleaner. Afterwards, if the hunting idle stops, but the idle speed is too low or too high, then adjust the idle speed as detailed in the service manual.

Awesome, just did that and wow, was she dirty! Got her out back together with new gaskets and had to adjust the idle screw a bunch, but she's idling smooth around 900. Haven't taken it for a spin yet, but will give update when I get around to that. Thanks for the help!
