Car is Stuck in limp mode! help? Please.
Hey to those who are reading i have a 99 accord v6 coupe recently got the transmission rebuild placed in after that i got a check engine light
pulled the code and it was a p0336 so i changed the crankshaft sensor myself after installation car ran horrid( i believe it went into limp mode) so i put the old one back and ran to the zone to get the faulty one replaced
decided to take it to a mechanic instead, well there went 275 for work i could have done the check engine came back with the same code. he gave my car back with limp mode said that the sensor he replaced was working and told me to bring it back in
so i did. he unplugged various sensors to see what could have been giving him the problem and nothing popped up the car still ran in limp mode. his final solution was that i need to replace my ecu.
luckily i had gotten one from the junkyard matching mine, only problem is could it really be the ecu if not what could it be? and if it is the ecu how can i get it programmed and what is the cost. Thank you in advance!

To "reprogram" the ECU, all you are doing is resetting the car keys you have so that it recognizes the immobilizer and keys. There are multiple devices for sale, I bought and used what's called a CK-100+. It's about $100, it lets add and reset keys with the new ECU.
Ebay always has some for sale, but you can also look elsewhere.

You basically plug it into the ODB-II port, turn it on, tell it you want to program the keys, it sends a command, you put the key in and out a couple of times, it gets recognized, and you are on your way.
When done, if you don't want it, you can resell it off, they come with unlimited "tokens" so you can use it all you want on as many cars as you would like,

Are you saying that all it will do is reset my keys to the new ecu? I actually thought i had to change the VIN to the ECU
As long as you have an ECU from a matching car (meaning a 99 Honda accord for a V6 and the same transmission (I can't tell if you have auto or manual) the VIN doesn't matter in these year cars. It's just the immobilizer that you are fixing so it works with your keys.
If you really don't care, buy an immobilizer bypass chip, solder that in, and then it doesn't matter, your key will always work (again, as long as you match the ECU to the correct car, you can't just stick any ECU in).

Thank You I actually just ordered one and will be trying it when it arrives i will update then! Thank you for your input! unfortunately the one i bought does have tokens! :/
Even if it has "tokens" it's going to come with like 1000 of them, you still won't have to worry for some time. And often, with the programmer, you can hit escape at the end and it won't register the tokens. In either case, you would need a couple hundred keys made and reset before you run out.
