Default Help (Starter)

I need some finding a starter for my 99 honda civic Lx AT. I don't wanna buy one from the dealer, it's to expensive. I like Denso and I can not find a starter for my civic. The auto parts stores here in Seattle don't sell Denso starters for Honda's. They have different brands that they sell. I've tried online like partsgeek and have had no luck. Ebay has them, but I'm skeptical of buying car parts on ebay.

Rock Auto is usually my go to they dont seem to have denso for your car but they trustworthy and carry a large variety.

Short of the dealer, a scrap yard, or ebay idk where else to tell you to try for a denso unit.

I'm still looking at I can't find anything. Ebay has some, but I very very skeptical because it may not fit properly even though it says it fits my car. I have heard horror stories about this situation, The dealer is my only other option, I just don't wanna spend the money. I have been replacing all my old worn parts on my engine, and I have replaced everything with Honda OEM. Everything from the distributor to alternator and everything in between. The most expensive part was the distributor, I paid a grand for that from the dealer. The starter is like 500 dollars I think or 480 dollars something like that. Anyway I am going to keep looking. Rock Auto is good by the way, but I am stuck on getting a Denso because I never have any issues with any of the stuff, or I will buy from the dealer.

I went to Denso's website and listed the parts that fit my car. Starter motors isn't even on the list. I seen alternators and sensors etc...but not starter's. Does denso even make a starter that fits my car? The ones on ebay may be knock-offs, so I am not even gonna buy from there. I think I need to confirm that Denso even makes a starter for my vvehicle before I do anything else.

Ok, I am doing some serious digging around and I was talking with someone. 1998-2005 Honda civic lx have the same starter from what I was told. Can anyone confirm this on here? If that's the case then I can buy a Denso starter. I don't know about other parts, I just wanna know about the starter.

Did you diagnose problem with your current stock Denso starter? You can probably repair it for a small amount of money.

IIRC when i replaced the starter on my 93 sol MT i ended up ordering one from some kind of Toyota. They were the non sealed style that i could order replacement copper contacts for and bolted up fine. The old one had the sealed motor tube on the side and looked completely different. We are running diff motors and trans so even if i had the part number idk if it would help. Its been so long im not even 100% sure it was Toyota. Ile try and get a picture later, just trying to help you think outside of the box.

I've seen the 2005 honda civic lx starter and it looks exactly like mine. It's even in the same spot on the engine. I didn't try to install it I just seen one. and I was like that looks exactly like my starter. They guy told me civic lx"s with the AT from 98-05 have the same starter, so this one would fit in your 99 civic.

It just clicks when I turn it over. I don't know what part of the starter causes that. I put in a used crappy starter so I can at least get around for right now until I figure this one out.

Sounds like the solenoid is fine.

Did you rule out loose or corroded G3 transmission ground connections? If so, replacing the starter brush holder assembly should do the trick.

The connections were the first thing I checked. They looked good. is replacing the brush assembly hard to do. I've never taken a starter apart before, I just replace them if they don't work.

No

The service manual shows how to disassemble, but document your disassembly with pictures to ensure correct reassembly. Also clean all starter parts with brake cleaner before reassembly.

Noted.
I just installed a 05 honda civic lx Denso starter in my 99 civic to see if it fits, and it fits. bolted up fine and started right up. I can't keep it because it isn't mine, but I just wanted to see if it fit. Once I took it out and compared it side by side next to mine, its the exact same starter, so my friend was right.

I don't know. I didn't see any part number on mine or my friends. Both are pretty old starters. If I would have to guess I would probably say no because its a different year. I do know a lot of the 4 cylinder Honda civic's have the same starter, and that was told to me by the dealership, I just don't know all the models that use the same one. My biggest concern before doing this was the actual shape, meaning little bends and the way the metal looks for sitting flush with the engine. Once I installed it and took it back out, I compared them side by side and it's the exact same starter. I dont see any differences at all.
