Decided to do a build thread as I thought some people might find it interesting.
Most of the the the work was covered this year during the first uk lockdown but to begin ill start in april 2019.
I came into the position where I was able to get an second "fun" car never had my heart set on a dc2 but always had a soft spot for them and still missed my old eg6 SIR.
Put a wanted add on facebook and was offered a this championship white teg about half an hour from my house.
Had a few mods like mugen twin loop back box, Hardrace engine mounts and 98 spec front brakes.
Also included in the sale was a set of Tein coilovers, I found the standard suspension to be very good just sat far too high for my liking.
It wasnt perfect and needed some love but didnt think id ever get the chance to buy one again so took the plunge.
These are the pics I was was sent and the first day I got it.
This is how it looks today after having a complete suspension and brakes rebuild with mostly new uprated parts.
Also Running a Link G4X ecu and will be rebuilding the engine for boost over the coming months.
The exhaust was blowing and whilst doing an oil change noticed the ebay manifold had cracked almost all the way round this was fixed but no flexi meant it happened again.
Decided to put a standard 96 spec manifold on it as the ebay one collector wasnt even 2.5" and the rest of the exhaust was a mess so that was fixed with a flexi added and the end result was pretty good. Really quiet out of vtec and not overly loud even at 8k. The induction noise is louder than the exhaust!
Once the coilovers and my number plate were on it looked pretty good.
Then after all that the clutch decided it had had enough, I manged to grind into 2nd at the side of the motorway and crawl home, I knew I was going to add a turbo at this point so got a stage 4 competition clutch and TTV lightweight flywheel
Next post is where things got worse and I decided it needed a full underside restoration/rebuild before it got any boost!
After the clutch went clutch went I got the side skirts off and stripped the rear interior.
Rear of the sills looked a bit worse for wear be was surprisingly clean up front and was some surface rust behind the plastics.
Once it was on the ramp to do the clutch and I had a poke about it was obvious the rear sills needed welding and the whole underside of the car really had to be done to make it acceptable.
New clutch didnt fix the the gearbox not going into gear either so I knew something was broken inside the box.
So soon as the garage became available it was up in the air and work started.
Dont have pictures of the other side on my laptop but it was much the same. After it was welded up we got it on axel stands and set about stripping the rear of the car to work our way forward.
Was never aiming for a show car finish just wanted it to be clean and easy to work on.
I used a combination of Dinitrol products for the underside, it was the 3 stage process with rust converter, cavity wax then underbody coating.
Both rear arms were stripped to component form ready for new wheel bearings, bushes and to be painted satin black.
By this point I had already bought Hardrace rear camber and toe arms, Powerflex black series bushes and Meister R clubrace coilovers.
