Default Civic EG distributor leaks

Guys anyone knows about civic eg distributor ? My engine oil is leaking from the part where the distributor connects to the engine. I thought a gasket change will do.

Mechanic A says, there is no gasket. If it leaks, have to change the whole distributor !! But this guy is not a cutthroat mechanic, in fact he said he cant do it.

Mechanic B says that there are oil seals inside the distributor, which needs to be changed. This mechanic is a Honda guy, i did a lot of stuffs with him, but will bill high !

So, anyone has experience in this area ? Thank you.

External oil leak, correct? If so, simple fix. Remove distributor and replace distributor O-ring.

If you also see oil inside the distributor (internal oil leak), then additionally replace the internal distributor seal.

thank you for the reply. Yes correct, external leak. Your reply confirms that a change of oil seals might fix the problem.

while i would love to diy, i dnt hv the necessary. Will have to rely on the mechanic. Appreciate the diagram, gives me an idea of whats going on.

thanks again.

Not hard changing the o ring out on the distributor if it’s external leak. Just mark the plug wires to the cap and and mark the position of the distributor position is the most important steps

Oil would be coming out of the distributor housing vent and/or the gap between the cap and housing. Once oil levels get heavy inside the distributor housing, misfiring usually occurs.

Thanks for the reply.

i see. Would this misfiring cause an occasional failure to start the engine ? no sound nothing, battery lights on, twist the key but nothing happens. But will start after leaving it for a while.

asking coz i have been having this other issue of the engine not starting up.

it would cause it not to start, it will crank over and over and not start.

if your turning the key and no crank or nothing then it could be a variety of things such as blown fuse, bad relay, bad starter etc or just as simple as a bad ground that needs cleaning up.

Remove distributor cap, rotor, and inner cover. If you see oil inside the distributor housing, the internal seal must be replaced.
