Default Digital_Sol's A2W Interceptor Powered Del Sol, 600+

Well HT I decided it’s time for a build thread. This will be a slow build but unlike my thread from a decade ago I will complete it this time. Unfortunately I cut my last build short and sold off most the goodies to adult for a bit however I kept the car in storage all these years to circle back. I am sure I will lean heavily on HT threads and google as it’s been a decade since I wrenched on my Honda & I was never an expert to begin with.

Any who the goal here is 450whp pump gas and as much as I can make on E85 or c16 (Yet TBD). I’d like to see low 6xx on the high boost tune which will likely max my IC to begin with. The car will really just be a weekend warrior with a little track time when life allows it. I’ve always wanted to build my car like this since the mid 2000’s and I finally have the stable income to do it so here I am. I realize this is a completely non-conventional build. I am using some parts typically found on drag setups and mixing them with a weekend warrior aspect including some creature comforts such as AC, Power Steering etc. It is definitely not the easiest way to make my power goals but it’s how I have always wanted to do it for one reason or another so here I am…

There is a royal F ton of work to be done especially with how I want it to all look and function but here she goes…

Note: I bought the motor/trans pre-built, I pulled the oil pan and VC and parts seem to be what is claimed to be inside. Trans has an LSD but I didn’t pull the casing. Motor has never been turned over so I am hoping everything is rock solid (checked tops of pistons and still have sharpie markings on them via borescope). Beyond a quick peak I haven’t gone through much on it.

Cody @ LoveLandRacing did all the beautiful fab work here. He is someone i have followed in the industry since my first Honda and it was awesome to finally have a project I could utilize his skills on. These were taken by him during the fab process however I should receive the parts tomorrow (Got one package today).

While parts are out for fabrication and waiting on this that and the other I cleaned everything up and painted them. Anything in silver was done using Por-15 silver engine paint out of a preval sprayer. I thin with xyol. It goes on with stupid coverage but its thin so very light coats. I really only prepped by degreasing, metal prep, a brush where needed and then painted. Its all cured rock hard and came out super clean in my opinion.

The red stuff was done using the metalcast line of 'annodized' looking paint. Its a longer process but I love the results. I will likely swap the WG cover to polished silver since in hindsight may bay is a lot of red but honestly its last of the list for now.

Had a custom coolant/catchcan combo created for my build (pic is not my bay). Not sure how I'm going to run the line to the coolant overflow yet (wish it was in the back in hindsight) but i love the design and simplicity. Straightline motorsports did an awesome job knocking this out for me! This was not an in-stock item and was made on request. I will run two breather lines off the back of the block and a line off the VC. No return line for the catchcan though, at least not right away.

Also below is my custom CF overlay work i had done. It turned out awesome except UPS destroyed it in shipping. After 2 months of fighting they finally sent a claim check and its being shipped back to Canada for repairs next week. I really hope they can repair it as good as it looked new. I always had a soft spot for cf. Interior will be black, cf with small blue accents. Planning on some s2k seats & re-upholstery when all said and done.

Front control arms painted silver, hard race bushings installed. I have the full kit but replacing them as parts come off and go back on the car.

Engine paint is drying but in a day or two I will install the following

-New studs for exhaust & intake side
-Intake Manifold
-Exhaust Manifold
-Cam Cap
-Vtec solenoid
-Moroso oil pan
-Lsv lines
-Different Vc/Gaskets
-Low profile hardware + downstar stuff
-custom intake box
-etc etc man the list is long

Then start mocking up the turbo setup to figure out water lines etc. Id like to get it dropped in place to also look at the headache of fitting; Heat Exchanger, Tucked Radiator, AC Condenser all up front under the frame rail. Plenty more to do but its a good start part wise to a long project. More pics of the car to come since photobucket ruined the oldies I have. I will also have some pic updates as I toss more stuff on the engine and start making it look a bit complete!

Ordered some Hasport 62A's earlier today in candy red. I am hoping they are firm enough, from the reviews the 70's were super firm so I figured start with 62A's for now since its technically more a street car than track for now.

Wow what a great build.
Im also own a sol im building. Id like to see results of this w2a intercooler. Hows holding the heat.
This the Mercedes A class styled turbo kit like you did was allways in my mind. I just never really believed(a gut thing) w2a will manage the hot Mediteranean weather.
I also like the fact cylinder 3 is longer on the turbo manifold. Thats what i did with my manifold too to save the 3rd cylinder. Like 50-70% of people that has damage, its on the 3rd on turbo B series.

Im in for results!

Thanks man!!

Tuff to say, for drag it certainly has its advantages (Ice) for a dd it’s definitely a bit more complicated. I’m hoping by going with a 5g tank, larger heat exchanger, and fast pump that it will still be beneficial. I am also considering a interchiller or killerchiller but this would likey require me to use a custom radiator since my tucked radiator likely isn’t going to fit with everything going on in the front. Maybe just use a half size leaving room for the ac condenser and KC on other side. Time will tell.

Beautiful! I'm also a carbon fiber fanatic but, the pocket book keeps my focus on function over form. I get where you're saying unconventional when referring to the build. Looks pretty unique from my view. Lol!

Love the LoveFab sidewinder. That's what I ran on my first turbo setup back in the day.

I hear you, so long story short I always wanted a cf interior and when I started my existing job a year ago I used the increase to make that dream a reality however it’s been 15 months and I still don’t have my items from (c is for carbon). I received (3) out of a (7) piece order and the quality was garbage. I ended up sending another set of interior out to AK carbon fiber who did an amazing job until it was damaged in shipping. Ultimately I wish I never started the cf interior. It’s been a huge time consumer and $$ at this point. I’m still fighting with Connor on the cf stuff he owes me but the quality is so poor and it’s been so long I’m basically screwed. Live and learn I guess, set me back 1k though just on the order through him. I’m hoping it all works out in the end but it’s been a super long journey just to make that dream a reality which is really one small piece of a larger puzzle. If I had to do it all again I’d stay with the existing setup lol

Alright well the weekend was a **** show but I managed to get a couple things done on lunch today. Extended studs installed, cam shaft seal installed, manifold mocked up. Now I think I am going to grab some ARP bolts for the manifold to head piece because the studs are super close to the runners and the center stud is blocking the oil dip stick which I still need to purchase. Do you guys recommend any type of anti-seize on the bolts for manifold to head? I also need hardware for turbo to manifold and looking at the ARP line. Its all these small odds and ends I don't realize I'm missing. This week will be slow since the gf's van is down (Chrysler transmission is down at 100k miles) but will continue on small odds and ends when I can.

Bolts: https://ipgparts.com/store/ARP-B-Ser...0-Engines.html

Tonight's goal is clean up my mess of a garage so i can bag, tag and stay organized. Everything is sorted great inside until you hit the garage and I'm fighting myself for a clean table lol!

Welp found a few small issues tonight

1) My vtec solenoid I bought online/Used is missing a piece and from the wrong motor
2) The ktuned filler isn’t going to fit, might have to have something fabricated and point it downward, I don't see any other options
3) My thermal intake gasket is for a GSR head

-ordered thermal gasket
-ordered arp manifold to head bolts

I do like to put anti-seize on my exhaust studs/nuts. For turbo-to-manifold, I'm using whatever studs came with my kit (Go-Autoworks) but I am using Stage8 locking nuts because I got sick of the nuts backing off.

It’s a Skat trak 148mm pump. I need to send it out to Glen @ Skattrak for a rebuild but first I need to get the pump tunnel bored out to fit the pump better. I’ve got a built 951cc two stroke motor I want to stuff in this old race hull. The pump is 148 however the stock pump shoe is 140mm. The yellow ski was just purchased for parts and the trailer it came with. I am going to cut it up (hull is damaged) and take the back section to the machine shop so they can properly machine cut the shoe to match the new pump. I’m not a huge seadoo motor head but I enjoy them.

Thanks, I will check into these. I’m also heavily researching the killer chiller style setups vs running a front mount heat exchanger. I need to pull specs on these ac pumps and see if it would be beneficial.

Ordering a flange to ship Cody to fab me up a filler that is lower profile then the Ktuned. The Ktuned filler is super nice quality just won’t fit my setup unfortunately.

Painted a few things on lunch: Water pipe, front forks, etc.

Mostly just wanted this pipe done so I can finish putting more parts back on the motor! Used por-15 black thinned with xyol and sprayed with a preval.

I was building a freestyle almost 1000 cc 2 stroke ski while doing my civic... very financially taxing. LOL, but being on the water is just way 2 much fun. Just bought a new SXR this year for the reliability factor of a new 4 stroke.

Keep at both though. its only money.

Man I bet that thing was a blast! Funny story is I started working on ski’s to fill the void of not working on cars as a cheaper alternative then I had some life changes and am back at doing both! The good news is I have nearly all the parts for the seadoo build it’s time I fight for. Still working on both for sure! We have a 97 gtx I did a full restoration on a few years back so that’s been holding me over while I slowly work on this one. The hull I’m putting it in is an old race hull so the bottom is CF and super light. I’ve got some other cf goodies and such for it as well but havnt done much besides the prep work for the motor swap. Still tons to do after the pump shoe is finished but I don’t have a timeline on it.

I bet that sxr is a blast!

Your SS manifold would look good electropolished, being everything else has been cleaned up on the engine.

Do you have any info on this? I didn’t find anything online about it. I was looking at coating options but wasn’t sure what could stand up to the heat!

Got my motor mounts in however ocd is kicking in about the difference in colors. I know I know who cares but I bought them from them directly so I presumed they would come as a matching set lol. Not a huge deal but definitely makes my eye twitch 😂

Gonna have to pull old red VC off the wall, she’s been on there for 4 years and previously another 5 at another house!

It'll still discolor over time, but it'd bug me that it's not as clean as everything else.

you can diy clean it with citric acid (lemon juice) and some scotch brite pads. I've never done electropolish in house, it's always sent out to a plating company.

Not much to update today.

Ran into an issue with the water pipe housing to block. I don’t have stock bolt but the bolt star bolt isn’t threading tight. I can thread it in tight without the housing so I’m ordering a longer bolt.

Prepped all these brackets and such today and will paint tonight or tomorrow. Likely just going to do black for all the brackets like it was oem. Ac bracket, alternator, rear mount etc.

Hasport said they often get various shades back from the anodizer. Not worried about it for now but I’ll likely paint them like I did my fuel rail and intake manifold spacer. Not a big deal but eventually I’ll fix it so my eye stops twitching lol!

Ordered a ATI dampener so I can get that on and then finish installing the lower/upper covers. I’d like to run the 1320 tensioner so I’ll need to do some trim work etc to keep it clean. I don’t think I really ‘need’ the tensioner but I already have it.

If anybody wants/needs a gsr thermal spacer for intake manifold or extended exhaust manifold studs just pay shipping and they are yours.

Waiting on:
-ati dampner
-level 8 bolts for turbo to manifold
-custom filler
-upper timing belt cover
-misc downstar bolts
-correct vtec solenoid
-manifold to head bolts (arp)

Still need to purchase
-injectors
-alternator + belt
-ac condenser + belt
