Default Crank Pulley Getting Stripped

I've been trying without luck to get my crank pulley off on my Honda Accord 2005.

Yesterday, I bought a 50mm after market pulley holding tool (large hexagon shaped socket attachment). After putting an enormous amount of force onto the breaker-bar cheater bar combo I had, I found that the holding tool (which was wedged stuck) kept slipping out and even started putting large gouges into the pulley wheel itself.

Has anyone encountered this? Is my tool a dud? It won't stay in the slot on it's own, but needs to be supported, does this mean that its too loose, or is that normal?

Thanks in advance. Any advice on what I could do to get it off also greatly appreciated.

Do you have a strong impact wrench?

I'd recommend a Lisle Weighted socket.

Funny thing, I actually just purchased that very socket from amazon Canada.

I had to borrow an impact wrench from friends, but it's not the most powerful unit. We shall see.

Thanks!

Heat the bolt with a propane torch and use a impact gun!

I don't usually have to support the 50mm socket. I do hold it in place until I can start a little pressure on the crank so it holds itself.

I personally use a torque multiplier to break crank pulley bolts and axle nuts free.

If you are going to buy an impact, go cordless and get the Milwaukee High Torque 1/2 drive impact. It give 1400 ft-lbs of nut breaking torque and you can use it in salvage yards without issue or power problems.

A torque multiplier? I've never heard of that, I'll do some research.

That looks like an awesome tool! Shame I can't find any second hand. If my latest attempts fail, that will be the next step.

The procedure in the shop costs as much as that impact wrench anyhow, so nothing lost in the end.

Thanks!
