D series non Vtec to D series Vtec swap
Hello, I have 91' EF Civic with d15b3 non V-tec, and want to swap in d16y2 from EG civic and it's V-tec engine. Never done engine swap before. Wonder what elese I need to change, probably it won't be just engine end transimsion, so V'tec could work, am I right? So I realy would like to know what else I need to change swaping this engine in.
Never done a full engine swap myself but in the process of doing a head swap to my d15b2 so Ill give my two cents. In addition to what you mentioned with the engine and transmission, you'll need the ECU that goes with the d16y2. Also you'll need to modify your existing engine harness or purchase a harness to accommodate the d16y2
I’m doing same thing. I’m putting a y8 in my 88 sedan. I’ve got the engine harness and the ecu that would come from the factory with it. P2P is the manual ECU P2E is the auto ECU if any 1 wanted/needed to know. I get the engine aspect of the wiring. But what do I do for the dash and chassis. I have the cabin and rear harness for the EF. LKQ in my town has a 97EX that a Y8 comes in. Do I need to go pull the cabin and dash harness from it? Thanx for the help. And sorry for the hijack.
Keep the engine harness that came with your car and use that. You will have to add additional wires for VTEC and some other things. You will need a jumper harness at the ECU. I think most folks convert to OBD1 and run either a P28 ECU or a P06 ECU with VTEC components added. You will need a jumper harness to run either an OBD1 or OBD2 distributor.
Hey brother I have D15B3 4 door eg and I want to do a head swap what do I require to do the swap, and what head could would work best in your opinion with sohc, if I were to swap heads and go fuel injected what head would work and I most probably have to change ECUs since the D15B3 is carb, any info??
