Default ****HELP!! vtec question on a D series!!****

Hi i have a vtec civic with a blown bottom end. Now, i have a NON- vtec longblock that i was going to swap into it but was thinking..

1. Can i swap the vtec head off the original motor and put it on the NON vtec block? Will vtec and everything work like it is supose to?

I know you can do this with b series but you have to buy the ls vtec kit. Im not really into d series much so im not sure if i can just swap the heads.. or id i would have to tap into the blokc with the kit just like the b series to get oil presure for the vtec.

2. If i decide to just put the complete NON vtec motor in my Vtec civic and DONT hook up the vtec solenoid because it is a NON vtec motor... will i have a light? The civic is a 1996. Thanks!!

you can put a vtec head on a non vtec block. its called a mini-me swap.
there are a couple of write ups in here about that. your probably going to have to wire vtec in, or get the same engine harness that was made for the vtec motor. but it has to be same electronics. probably OBD2

throw the vtec head on the nonvtec block.

if it is a d16a6 or d15** block, you will need to remove the oil jet from the center rear oil hole.

not sure about d16z6 blocks. the d16y7 block shouldnt have one, but doesnt hurt to check
