Mechanic charging labor based on parts cost?
I took my car to a mechanic that works out if his home. I have a 1991 Honda Accord LX.
The car is new to me. It needs a master cylinder, and a complete timing belt job.
He says he charges labor at 1 to 2 times parts cost.
I have never heard of this. I have heard of flat rate jobs based on a set hourly rate times the amount of time it really takes to do the job. Or by book rate.
But I have never heard of basing labor off parts cost.
This has me very put off to using the guy.
What are your thoughts? Am I wrong for feeling uneasy about this being how he chargers?
If I buy the cheepest part then the labor would be less then if a buy the most expensive. That, to me just is not right....
Thank you.
