Default ferrea 5000 valves? The better choice? or go with the 6000 series?

hey everybody!

im getting along with my 450whp target lsv build, and im doing the head work as we speak. i was planning on running oem valves, but my friend with much more experience than i says he thinks they're trash but we're waiting to clean the cake off of them to decide. im nearing the end of my budget, so i was wondering if anybody has any recommendation for valves. i plan on dailying this car, setting redline around 8250. gt3585 1000cc injectors wal 255 itr valve springs and ferrea retainers

any insight is appreciated, and be nice!

Factory Honda valves are not junk... in fact, they are a very high quality valve. OE valves will work just fine at 450 wheel HP. The Ferrea 5000 series of valves are flat faced and not a good choice for a turbo-charged engine. The 6000's are a far better choice and do not cost much more than the 5000 series valves.

If your OEM valves are straight and you want to save some cash, just use them. If you're replacing all the valves I'd just shell out for some Ferrea 6000's.

I agree ... stay with OEM or Ferrea. I use Skunk2 Ultra valves and they have been great also.

Flat faced valves are easy to manufacture. Marketing them by touting their "increased compression" fails to identify all of the negatives that they create. If nothing else, the simple fact that they weigh MORE than a dished valve should be a deal breaker when being used in a high RPM 4-cylinder engine.

Well said DaX... if your stock valves can be cleaned up and used, they will be more than adequate for the HP level that you seek. IF you have to replace some or all of them due to damage, the truth is that OE valves are far more expensive than a set of Ferrea 6000's, so THEN I suggest you get the Ferrea valves and save money.

Couldn't have said either better myself. Plus, OE valves are pretty damn tough. I slammed some into a set of pistons once and the pistons cracked and NO damage was done to the valves that contacted.. If not OE, Ferrea 6000 for teh turbo..
