Default P28 reason for running rich? (H22A in EG)

I have an JDM H22A but I'm using my P28 mugen chipped ECU. The problem I'm having is it's running really rich. Straight blowing black smoke at idle and at low end. This is a serious problem I'm getting like 100 miles on the street but about 260 on the highway. So I'm guessing my top end is good but low end is REALLY bad. Would the ECU be the culprit? What would be the best suggestion? Keep ECU and get a VAFC? or get a P13? Thanks

get the ECU made for the H22 and get that optimized by either you or a tuner.

Yes the mugen ecu sucks *****. (I'm a little loaded up). It has way too much fuel and timing to produce any real power. I'M SERIOUS. Those Mugen specs are made for 13,000 rpm race engines...not your swap. Get a real ecu and you won't have such a problem. Plus if it's mugen spec you won't be getting any CEL codes you may have.....

If I keep the P28 and rechip it w/ H22A specs will it bypass and open the secondary butterflies? Or would I have to get a GSR ECU? Thanks

P28 can't do it....no matter whatit does not have the programming..you need p72...but honestly justget a P13 and you will be happy.

im running a p28 chipped to a mugen GSR program, all i did was open my secondaries all the time by unplugging the vacumn line, its runs fine, it does run rich...but so do p13s...and my ecu is obviously making power....cai/h/vafc/cam gears....on street tires its pulling almost 102mph traps...101.79..and hitting 14.0....so i dont think the ecu is bad...peace

how can something be garbage if it will run 13s? which is exactly what my Mugen P28 is going to do...my traps are almost 102mph...so i know its making good power, yeah it runs rich at idle, and cruising rpms...but at WOT its all good..peace

Thanks for your replies. Honestly though I'm getting only 100 miles on the street. I know this is super RICH. Would the P13 help this problem or am I better off getting the VAFC and adjusting the fuel curve and all?

You should be turning mid to low 13s IMO

An Accord with an intake, exhaust and an H22a can run a 14.2. There are guys around here who have done it no problen. A hatch thats 700lbs lighter should be doing a hell of a lot better.

My own accord has turned traps at 96 MPH with I/H/E, my boat weighs 2810 without me in it.
