Hey new post , I am looking at a Honda SIR , The vin number does have EM1 after the first 3 digits. Which checks out fine. When I ran the CARFAX it says Honda Civic SI. Not SIR ? Is that a flag? Or is that standard. Attached a photo
It’s confusing , the car shows Canada on the car fax. The back badge has SIR , front has SI. CARFAX shows SI. Would it say SIR normally or just SI ? It’s a 3 hour drive to go see. I can purchase for 4K Canadian which is 3400 usd. 250 000 kilometres not miles.
just from your reply in believe I understand now. The car is assembled in the USA. That must be the reason why it shows SI. Not SIR. Although it was built for sales in Canada it may have been a mistake to not label it as a SIR.
The SiR in Canada is very similar to the Si in the US. The EM1 chassis designation would basically suggest a 2-DR Coupe chassis with the DOHC 1.6L engine. The stickers/badges may change depending on where the car lands around the globe, but the basic foundation is still the same.
Easy way to tell if it's a Canadian SiR, does it have heated mirrors? USDM SI's did not have them only the Canadian cars
I have not looked at the car in person as of yet. I will be this weekend. I will look for that. I am just wondering because the car is made in the USA although it was to be sent to Canada will that be a factor ? Vin does say EM1 and it is a b16a2. But car fax shows SI ?

The car can be built in Canada and be meant for the US market or vice versa. Where the car is built is one thing, what specifications are another. Most new civic's are built in England and the production lines dictate which country/specs that car is for.
Carfax should show if the vehicle was imported into the country or not. Not when the car was first sold but if the owner sold it and then it was imported or the owner moved from one country to another it would still show it was imported. Check state/provincial vehicle registration, maybe shed more light.
I ran a ICBC (Crown run insurance in British Columbia) and carfax on my EM1 and i'll have to dig up the paperwork but I believed it showed it as a "Honda Civic SIR" it was a locally car with service history I could trace back to 2000
