How to run climate control on a tablet?
Hi I have a 98 Honda Civic ex. I am wanting to put a tablet in my dash but I'm wanting to get rid of my climate control and operate it from the tablet. Is that possible at all? It's not a normal tablet it's a tablet built into a CD headunit .
It will require some technical knowledge, serious effort and some money, but you can do this. However, it's going to take you a bit of work to find the right item. At it's most basic, you want a bluetooth trigger to turn on and off and then control speed of cooling fans. You will need the bluetooth for access to the laptop. You will also need to hardware in the power for the tablet so it doesn't die while driving.
A very simple trigger is here, for example:
However, this is only and on/off, so if installed it would turn on the AC, but you couldn't control the amount of cooling, it would just be on.
Fancier hardware is here:
You can build this with a Raspberry Pi for example, but you will need to get the voltages from the AC unit in order to teach the Raspberry the voltages and such.
Good luck.

I can't... won't tell you how to do it. but I can give you an idea of what it would take.
you will need something with GPIO and a means to power it (buck converter but probably a switch-mode power supply..) A raspberry Pi or similar with a 7" touch screen and a 4 ch amp to handle the audio output so it can replace the current head unit function.
you will also need to upgrade to the '99-'00 climate control box to get the electrically driven blend door and "zone selector." I have worked on/with both but never converted one to the other. do some searching, i know some guys have done this.
you'll need to study the function of the factory climate control I/O (the factory service manual explains it pretty well) and set up the Pi GPIO pins correspondingly. that reminds me, probably best to use a between the outputs and the car. then write some code and build a GUI. voilą, touch screen controlled climate control.
it's a head unit with a touch screen. if it stops working when you take it out... its not a tablet. if i'm wrong, share a link to where you got it or a make and model number.
