does ANYONE know what the maximum TRUNK load capacity is for a 95 del sol SI 5 speed - without damaging the rear suspension? i need to carry about 320 lbs in the trunk (and drive the car 400 miles) but i don't want to damage the rear suspension, exhaust, wheels, etc. i checked the owners manual with no luck. i've searched all over the internet to no avail. in an act of desperation, i even called a honda dealership looking for an answer (they were obviously clueless).
You can Google how much a stock 7mgte weighs to get an idea. This was on stock suspension with 17s 14 years ago, however only about 20 miles. I wouldn't advise it at highway speed in case of an unexpected maneuver or poorly maintained highways.
well, the item i'm transporting IS a D16Z6 engine for another del sol i'm working on. the motor weighs about 320 pounds with all the externals. i could always rent a small van to get the motor, but my funds are limited on this project. hmm, perhaps better safe than sorry.
You should be ok if at stock height, with fairly good conditioned shocks and springs. Think about it, you can technically hold 4 200 lb people in the car. If it's just you and 400 lbs in the back, that's within the limits when it was new. But you do want to be really careful on bumps, potholes, curbs, and speed bumps. And, I would'nt carry anything more than that in the vehicle.
Also, just be careful on stopping, you don't want that **** coming into the back seat
OP, the answer is in your car door jam. You will have a GROSS vehicle weight on the tag... so fill the tank and drive to your nearest truck stop and get a certified scale weight. Then add the estimated cargo weight, and if you are UNDER the Gross vehicle weight, you should be just fine. Maybe a little camber induced rear tire wear, but nothing major.

I am not sure what Del Sol you have, but all that I have ever seen have only TWO seats... so a maximum of TWO passengers would be suggested.
