yes you just tq it down with your tq wrench without the socket. If you dont want to use it just tighten it normally without it and make sure it is tight.

remember. the drain bolt is not the same as the filler bolt.

I used the rachet with a 1/4 3inch extension and it worked perfect. Just make sure you can get off the fill bolt before taking off the drain bolt. My fill bolt was tiiite as hell and I had to take it to a local shop to have them put it on a lift and loosen it a little before I was able to change the fluid.

You need a torque wrench for tightening that? why?

I seemed to get mine plenty tight without stripping it, with just a socket wrench.

I used a huge breaker bar to break that bolt open

No socket needed. Just make sure you have a 3/8" head rachet and use it w/o any sockets. Just stick the rachet head in the drain bolt indentation.

we a set of snap-on's that have the right socket, but theres' really no reason to get them. A socket is a tool the same as the actual rachet. You are using your tools even if you don't use a socket.

Why not just use a short 3/8" drive extension (basically the same concept as a socket)

To make it real simple, just put a short 3/8 extension on your torque wrench and plug that directly into the plug. No socket needed. Can't get any simpler. Just like the fill plug on the pumpkin of an old chevy rear end.

what the ****? you don't need an extension, you don't need a socket. The square peg goes in the square hole... 3/8" drive ratchet.... put it in the hole ...

sack-who wonders why this thread is so long

I understand that tools can be very expensive. Even so, if you're so protective of your nice tools that you won't use them for their intended purpose (3/8" drive ratchet head on the tranny drain bolt), then what are you going to do when a job calls for you to use your tools for an UNintended purpose (using a ratchet handle the we-todd way to separate the ball joint; or whaling on your ratchet handle with a BFH to loosen a tough bolt; or hammering on a smaller socket to loosen a stripped bolt). IMO, you will not fully appreciate your purchase until really USE your tools.

If your tools were really that nice they'd have a lifetime warranty

Well, most of my tools are Craftsman. They're not what I'd call "high quality," but if I break one, I can return it at the local Sears. That's important to me.
