ok sorry if this has been posted before but i am new to this forum.
98 accord auto, hit has a random misfire, and with not start sometimes, and will shut off randomly. i have done new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, igniter inside the distributor and the coil. also i notice the dash does not light up or turns off when it will not start. i have been told crank pos censor, and main relay and fuel pump. the pump tested good and has no problems and builds pressure, screen is very clean and no dirt in the gas tank, it is super clean. where is the main relay located and what am i missing? i am out of ideas and this was a very good running car.

The dash not lighting up is a clue that it may be a faulty ignition switch. The link also has info. on the main relay.

Question is the main relay the same as the main relay for the fuel pump or are they different?

 

The main relay is used to operate the fuel pump and supplies power to the fuel injectors (there are actually two relays inside the one main relay). They are one in the same.


Btw: Is that a transposition error in your signature (89 vs 98)?

 

It sounds like the ignition switch as well. I would test that first since it'e easy to do before replacing relay.
