Default 1998 honda civic dx d16y8 head on d16y7 block

I have a 1998 honda civic and was wondering everything i need to put a y8 head on a y7 block i know i need the vtec wires and the y8 ecu but what else would i need or is that all i would need?

It's just not cost effective to do the swap in my opinion

$300 for a head with unknown condition
$50 for head gasket
$80 for timing belt and water pump because you should
$20 in misc gaskets
$100 for an ecu

So at minimum you are $400 in parts to gain maybe 15hp? That's without accounting for any sensors that may be bad on the donor head


I personally prefer just to swap to a y8 intake manifold purely for the aesthetics and making it look like it isn't a base model under the hood

Usually you can pick up a complete intake manifold with sensors and throttle body for $100 to $150 on eBay and it's much easier job and looks great
