Default Crankcase vacuum pump..More efficient, or no?

I did a little searching here and didnt see much info on this. I was looking at adding a vacuum pump to my engine to help evacuate the crankcase under boost, Most setups I see are around $900 and are only listed for v8 engines. But I came across some people using a modified GM electric smog pump, Some companies even make a harness just for this mod using a hobbs switch. I know that some vacuum in the crankcase can help parasitic loss. Supposedly Ford used these pumps on the 96+ Mustang Cobra for this exact purpose. Just wondering if anyone here has tried these?

Here is a website that talks about the pump and mods.

Why don't you run a quality catch can setup?

I'm not opposed to running a quality catch can setup, I just figured vacuum would be more efficient than venting to atmosphere.
My plan was to run TheShodan's modified catch can setup.
