Plastic positive battery cap, engineer to fail !!!
I just bought my first Honda (Civic Coupe 2018), it is used but not really used that much
I open the hood at the dealer and saw that the plastic positive battery cap is broken, the dealer give me a new one when I bought the car.
So quick inspection of the old cap.
Well the 2 tabs are broken, why ...
Broken ? easy the 2 tabs are way more flimsy that the lock cap,
so I guess some one tried to open the cap without using I guess a "some kinkof plastic key-clip" that push open the lock tabs, and used instead a screwdriver lol.
So im a cheap guy, I fiddle with my new replacement cap, and trim off the lock so it can be open without prying it with a screwdriver so no more risk of broking the cap.
So I have no idea how much cost this little cap, but I'm sure it is VERY well engineered to broke !!! So maybe Honda make a lot of money from this.
I don't known, I just hope not all parts of my Honda are NOT engineered this way ....
Re: Plastic positive battery cap, engineer to fail !!!
Some things are certainly engineered to a price point.
Working on many different Hondas you can see what Honda designed and what they outsourced to the 3rd world for engineering and manufacturing. Honda stuff is well designed and easy to access for service. The accessories they farmed out fit like garbage, are hard to service, and seem to be made from low quality materials.
Overall still decent. Jury is still out on their DI stuff. So far not doing so hot.
