Default can this ecu be changed to hondata S300 v3 (pics)

there is a local guy selling a socketed p28 ecu for what seems like a pretty good price he doesn't know what kind of chip it is im hoping someone here can tell me if it could be modified to install the S300. if so i would likely send it away to a place like phearable.net to be professionally installed and have the capacitors replaced at the same time. he also stated that the datalogging header had to be soldered.

If you looked at the S300 install documentation you'd see pretty quickly what's different.

The ecu pictured has a zif socket to make chip changes easier, but you can't use that with the S300. Hondata uses male header strips soldered to the board while just about everyone else uses female, and I don't think it would fit under the lid if you did try to use the socket anyway. Your ecu already has a data header installed too, but it will need to be swapped out for the correct header strip to fit the S300 correctly. Otherwise she looks good to go from the top side. How is the solder job? Post a pic of the back side of the board.

Read this: https://www.hondata.com/help/smanage...usocketing.htm

Personally, I would just buy a refurb ecu from Phearable/Xenocron/HAM and sell the one you have as a quality chipped ecu, since it looks at first glance like a decent non-hacked socket job. Since it's already been re-soldered on once it's a higher risk of failing or lifting a track if it gets soldered on again. Since it's not like these things are depreciating anymore anyway, so you'll probably get out of it what you have in it. Then you'll get a ready to plug in S300 ecu without having to take the car down while you wait for the work to be done. /$.02

EDIT: Sorry, I missed the part about it being a local for sale item. Still think I'd go for a refurb one from a reputable dealer. Look at https://www.burton-racing.com/. He's a good small time guy and has lots of extras at good prices and knows his ****. Also has a lkot of specials if you sign up for his mailing list.

That chipped ECU can be converted for S300. I do it all the time but I use professional equipment as it's very easy to damage the traces. Inbox if interested.

thanks for both your answers. main reason im interested was the cost. i dont have a lot of money and its only $80 (about $60 usd) thats like 1/4 the price of buying one from the websites and i know the guy by reputation in town he supposedly takes good care of his stuff. im pretty poor and suck at saving money but paying for things over time piece by piece i can do. all in all if im sending it to someone who often and professionally does the ecu conversions and have the main wear capacitors replaced is it safe to assume a pretty good likelyhood of ending up with a well working system in the end?
