My problem is that I am confused to understand what is the purpose of drill a hole through the cylinder house (please, see step 11 of the above link or the image below) to remove the cylinder end.
Why should I drill something in the cylinder house? I suppose that is to remove the cylinder end, but I cannot realize what is the implication of this hole.
Thank you guys in advance for some useful help!
Civic service manual referece:
Step 11. Drill a 3 mm (0.12 in.) diameter hole about 2.5-3.0 mm (0.10-0.12 in.) in depth in the staked point (A) on the cylinder. Do not allow metal shavings to enter the cylinder side on the gearbox housing. After removing the cylinder end (B), remove any burrs at the staked point.
Re: Showa - Steering gear overhaul - drill a hole?
To release the threads for that nut. They use a punch to stake the nut in place so it can't back off. Drilling the stake out allows removal of the nut without destroying the threads.
You don't need to drill clear through. Just enough to pierce the case and remove the staked in material.

Thanks. So I suppose that the hole is used to remove threads *throught* the hole, similar as in the koyo steering box, where there is a orifice where you remove the metal orings while spin the nut. Weard, showa requires to drill a hole instead to make the case with one.
