Hello, I've got an 99 accord 2.0l petrol 147hp european version, and after one of the last jump starts the alarm went off and I just couldn't stop it, after many tries and open and close the door and using the remote key I got it to stop, but then all the interior lights and driving headlights are flickering, like if the warning was on... I did a video:
In the video, you can also see that the voltage is acting very weird and you can hear like the ticking noise when you have the warning on. What could that be?
Today I made a big mistake... I was jump starting my car again because the battery keeps dying or just doesn't charge fully, and I put the cables backwards... I've done a lot of jump starts and never did this stupid thing, There war some sparks and my Honda honked, I'm just relax that my friends car is ok.
After that we tried again the good way, and it was like my car had no power at all, 0 lights. We tried to push the car with an old battery I had and nothing happened, no way to get a single light, maybe that battery was too low to make it start? Tomorrow I'll check the fuses and when the shops will open I'll get my battery to be checked but for now I can't do much.
Is it possible that I blew something else a part from the battery? What can I check?
Pulsing lights are an indication that the diodes are bad in the alternator. Instead of positive DC current you are seeing AC current.
After reverse polaritying the already damaged alternator you most likely killed it.
Most vehicles from teh 90's up usually will not allow starting if the alternator is damaged.
Get a new alternator.
Well I checked the big 100A battery fuse and it was blwon, tomorrow I'll take the battery to a shop and ask them to test it I hope it isn't dead because it has only a year and is a good one... and then I will try to start the car, I hope that's the only damage it was done.
For the alternator I'm having a hard time looking for rebuilding kits in Spain I have found some online shops that has the diode bridge but none in stock, I'll have to go to a parts store, or maybe to my local honda. I'm planning to also replace the voltage regulator of course. This thing I have to replace?
I will first test to see if the car runs like this, and after I'm sure that my mess didn't do big damage I'll have a look at that alternator.
I haven't had good luck with getting good rebuidl kits for these cars, but I can't say that's my speciality. I've been buying OEM rebuilt ones on Ebay. They seem a lot more solid than the aftermarket ones I pick up at the auto store.
Good news, the jump start mistake I made I think only costed me a 100A fuse, the car started a little bit crazy: Alarm didn't go off for a while, after 1 or 2 minutes the alarm shut off, but when opening any door, it went on again, after waiting for 20 minutes revving it to charge the battery I shot off the engine, and close the doors with the remote and opened them again and the alarm issue disappeared.
The car struggled a little bit to start but now I just hope the battery didn't die, let's see if it hold the charge tonight.
And for the alternator, I'm going to use the car these days to fully charge the battery then I'll try cleaning all the contacts and grounds and see if it improves anything, if not I'm going to have to buy a new one.
Ohh by the way, my multi meter just died too... I've no luck XD so I couldn't see what voltage I was getting.

Reason: Multi meter extra :D
With the lights regularly pulsating like that with the engine on that is an internal alternator issue. No cleaning of contacts or connections will fix that.
Thanks a lot, I will search a little bit more for a rebuild kit that includes the diode bridge and if I can't find anything I'll buy a new one.
Can I use this thread for another problem of the car or I should open a new one?
