Default Using Bosch LSU 4.9 wideband sensor, directly connected to ecu.

Hey Guys,

After a few hours research i cant get clear if i can connect a lsu 4.9 wideband sensor direct to the ecu without the use of a controller.
I have read the article from Ha motorsports and i want to install a lsu 4.9 that way so i can read my afr using moates hulog and HTS.

https://www.hamotorsports.com/pages/obd1-ecu-wideband-installation-wiring-instructions

They say its possible. But i also read on this forum that its not possible..! So what must i believe?

I want to get it clear before i start buying anything..

Thanks

Depends on the ecu.

If it's an OBD1 Honda ecu as in the article you linked then the short, long, easy, and hard answers are all NO. What they are showing you in that article is a method for connecting your controller at the ecu reliably - Power, ground, & signal.

I suggest you read through this page to get a sense of how the LSU (and other lambda) sensors work, then you'll understand why:

Sorry to hijack, but wanted ask for insight on this. What controller could be used? Since i have a demon 2 with bluetooth, it has the capability to take in the signal and display it via their android app, but say, for example the aem wideband gauge and controller, if I can have the value displayed without the gauge, are there any controllers for the sensor, that simply output a signal?
say, so I can use my own gauge or the demon?

PLX. Their controllers are better than the other two big brands anyway.
