Default Intercooler mounting ideas

I’m currently looking for some ideas for a clean mount for my intercooler. I have a Sheepey 850 single back door. I have to loose the stock bumper support and find a what to mount it cleanly to the car.
looking to keep as much of the front bumper as possible as well. Looking for ideas for mounting this thing.

Does the intercooler have threaded bungs on the bottom? If so, weld two pieces of angle to the lower part of the core support, drill holes in the angle, and bolt the intercooler to it. I've also seen people drill through the top of the radiator support and use longer bolts with spacers to hang the intercooler. I did the first option, because I didn't want to see the bolts from the top.

unfortunatly it does not. I was leaning toward using some form of bottom bracket cause I didn’t wanna drill through the top either. But I think it’s gunna need to be able to slide left to right so I can make sure I lines up with the turbo

Is there someone near you that you would trust to weld on some aluminum bungs to the bottom of the intercooler? Don't mount the intercooler until you have the turbo at least mocked up so you can make sure everything lines up correctly.

You will need to cut that middle crash bar section out and have it mounted to the actual center radiator support. The height of that FMIC needs to go up as high as possible if you want to clear the bumper.. Is yours a knockoff by chance? It clearly says it has two welded mounting bung on top (on their website).

So I ended up making a upper and lower bracket to amount this. Top bracket I botched so the cooler would have ability to slide right to left for adjustment. I’ll post more pics once I finish it tomorrow

USE THEM. That's why they are there for.

I have welded bung on each side of my FMIC (upper portion) and I used "L-shape" brackets to mount it to the bumper crash bar.

Did the stock bumper fit? My main concern is not having it tuck into the stock eg bumper. I have the same intercooler as the OP btw. Going to tackle the job the weekend when my 45 degree coupler comes in and I can mount it to the backdoor side. Ill try to come back to post some pictures to hopefully help out others with some ideas.

Gotta trim it some, and having a lip to cover any excess would help

Driver side

Passenger side

I used the bumper guard to mount the intercooler.

If you compare this side to the driver side you'll see how much of the bracket youll need to shave off.

Had to trim quite a bit of bumper off to fit the intercooler. Here are some of the small pieces.

Bumper installed.

Sits just below the bumper but right above the traction bar so Im happy.

I trimmed the back portion of the center "slots on the front bumper. Other than that, it fits fine. If you are having issues with the inlet/outlet pipes, you can always use (2) 45* elbows instead of a 90*. This will give you more room at the sides of the bumper.

As for those "ventilation" holes, you should have gone with (4) LARGER holes (2" preferably) instead of what you have. Looks cleaner and less tacky.

I appreciate your opinion NVturbo. I guess just be glad it isn't your car? haha. My last bumper had a big 2.5'' x 10'' section cut out; I think the holes looks better. It definitely helped with my ECT since the intercooler blocks all the air so ventilation holes serves its purpose. Like the old saying goes, to each their own.

It's all good. I've been around the block long enough to know what is functional and looks good....and what is ricey. Like they say, if you can't handle people's criticism, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE POSTED.

Carry on....

I forgot, this is social media where YOU can be a keyboard warrior. I guess bigger holes look less ricey. Stay up homie.

Here’s how I did mine. SpeedFactory tucked IC/Rad combo. Just used some flat stock and bent it into “S’s” and bolted it up. Nothing fancy, just worked with what I had. I mounted it forward as far as I could to have clearance on the turbo. I know it’s not an EG but I just trimmed the grill out and took off another inch or so of the bumper. Fits like a glove and rock solid!
