Hey guys, I broke my timing belt Friday and threw a new head on my car over the weekend. After much fighting and cursing I got everything together EXCEPT no matter what I do, I'm always a tooth off! Or so I think.
High comp but not sure what CR or anything. Bought the car with it
The pistons are NOT stock, so I'm wondering if this is the reason I have ping at cruise and it knocks HARD on startup. Its got 89 octane on it so I plan on running some octane booster in it to see if clears up the ping and knock then is getting 93 octane after this tank. I JUST bought this and had no idea what I was getting to be honest, but for 600 bucks and no CEL it worked for what I needed it for.
I keep rechecking my time and it seems like it's good. I can't get a clear picture though
Hey so I just realized that the gasket I put on was a STOCK head gasket with a compressed measurement of .0027"
The one I pulled off was a .0080"
I have one on order that'll be here at the end of the month
I hope my clearance is good. It's not making any nasty noises besides a knock when you start it at operating temp
I think you have one too many zeros in those measurements... .0027" is less than a sheet of paper and .0080" is not quite three sheets. I believe you meant .027" and .080" respectively.

Whoops. It's pain in the behind to get any sorta decimal to write with the auto punctuation haha. So far so good, besides having the ignition timing so retarded she falls flat on her face. Other recommendations were not to high Rev and no high load. As if it wasn't slow enough already... Gasket should be here at the end of the month and hopefully Itll be just a quick swap.
Most people here take the easy way out when a head has been resurfaced and buy an adjustable cam gear and adjust the cam sprockets to match the belt at the crank marking too dead center. You should also be able to adjust the distributor forwards and backwards to slightly adjust timing to see if that helps before you pull the cylinder head. You should also get a timing light to check fire on the harmonic balancer to check distributor timing

My dizzy is adjusted almost all the way retarded at this point. The head I used as the replacement was pulled off a stock motor that developed rod knock. Valve lash was done right before it was pulled. I really needed to get it running asap so I just threw the head on with a stock felpro from advanced. I don't know if the old head was milled or not but I do know the pistons are high comp and with a 0.027" gasket, I'm assuming I'm running at least 12:1. Once I throw the 0.080" on there, I should be able to move my dizzy back a little bit and POSSIBLY use an adjustable cam gear to adjust my valve timing enough to where it'll run okay on the highway. I bought the car when I was in a tight spot and had no idea what I was getting into. and I've already put the idea out to some Honda guys that I would straight trade for a stock civic. I really just need a daily and I'm not trying to deal with the extra special ****. Built bottom end needs a good head and a good owner. It won't live up to anything more than an A-B car in my hands
