Questions regarding Hondata/ Neptune/Crome pro
Hi i had a question about what would be best for me and what all of you with experience would suggest with my set up. So i have a d16a6 motor. It is in my 1991 Honda civic hatchback. I have the wiring harness and distributor for obd1 conversion. I will be putting a eBay turbo on it with a external wast-gate. I will be running 550cc injectors with delco fuel pump. I am going to ask what in 2020 would be like the best for tuning it. I want to run about 11 psi. The motor is not rebuilt i am saving money to rebuild it after i blow this motor. I know sounds crazy but this motor still runs strong and has very clean oil every oil change. So i am wondering should i run Chrome pro to tune, neptune, and or hondata. I know hondata is super expensive so i don't want to but if it is the best and just the smartest i guess i will listen. Also i will be tuning myself so i will not be going to dyno or getting it tuned until i do the motor rebuild. If you all cold just let me know what you guys think is the best for my situation and if you need more information please let me know. Thank you.
If your tuning yourself, Hondata S300 or Neptune. With Hondata, you can pay for Evans academy and he will guide you in tuning with the S300. Chrome if I’m not mistaken is not updated or supported, and will require you to have the ostrich, chip burner, ect. At that point you might as well buy the S300 or Demon. Both are great units, Neptune is 100 cheaper, but once you factor in the Bluetooth module it’s 50 cheaper.
Neptune/demon support from the company such was device failure is great. Very responsive and helpful. I cannot speak on that on Hondata as I have only ever ran Neptune.
hope that helps.

On that note, I also use Neptune RTP. User friendly and loads of features.
I'm gonna toss it out there before the thing gets said.. I may hurt feelings, sorry not sorry.. DO NOT CHOOSE WHAT YOUR TUNER WANTS YOU TO CHOOSE... You choose what YOU want to run, then find a tuner competent in that software. Reason for it is that you need to feel comfortable yourself with that software and not have to rely on somebody else for EVERY little thing you need to do or have a question about. Just saying. Lol!

Neptune for your goals is more than sufficient. Hondata has some more add-on features really only required for drag racing or high-power applications (Coil-on plug conversion, Traction control).
They all built on the same code (Chrome, eCtune, Neptune, Hondata) - so the interface is quite similar between all of them. Neptune and Hondata have seen the most development so tables are better defined, have superior datalogging and more options.
I'd suggest you get a VTEC compatible ECU even if you don't run VTEC as its much easier to sell if ever needed. Assuming you don't need an Electronic Boost Controller - you can get away with the standard vtec-enabled ecu. P28 isn't necessary - I ran a modified P06 on my LS/VTEC engine.

Correct me if I'm wrong, you can use the P28 ecu (w/ Neptune) and disable the VTEC in the parameters/options so it will just act like a P06/P75 ecu. If you ever swap out for a VTEC setup, you won't need to do anything to use the same ECU except to enable that feature.
Yessir! I went the other way on that though.. I originally had a P06 and added Neptune, then converted it to a P06 VTEC after i got my Z6 swap. Got the components from Moates for 28 shipped i believe?
As mentioned, you can always disable VTEC in Neptune parameters while you aren't running a VTEC setup, and the boost by gear components are there when (and if) you ever decide to go that route.

HAMotorsports is actually have a sale right now on ready-to-tune ECUs. They are "spec" ECU meaning they are aftermarket not Genuine Honda but it doesn't really matter. It will do the same thing, with newer internal board components.
