Default "The Most Expensive Honda Civic" build

haha this one is going to be interesting. ole Matty boii from Obsessed Garage just picked up this 27,000 mile EM1 EBP example for $25K and is probably going to dump another $25K-$30K at least into it, then do a giveaway on the OG channel.

In to see what he does, not sure how I feel about him pulling the 27k mile B16 to replace it with an unknown mileage B18C. I get him trying to stay period correct, but god that hurts me a bit. Either stay period correct with the OG engine or K swap it.

He talked about having someone looking for a "good" B18C5 to go in it. Knowing how much he likes new/expensive stuff, I recommended he go with a brand new B18 Dart block. We'll see what happens.

Why couldn't he do up a high mileage Si, and bring a lower dollar value car up to the next level? Instead, he takes a valuable low mileage survivor, and plans to molest it in the name of period correct nostalgia.

I get it, it's his cash, car, and youtube revenue; but I cant help but see this as another stock Si wasted, and clean stock examples are getting increasingly more rare with each passing year. I just hope he keeps the engine and any other stock parts he removes, so that whoever wins the car as a giveaway has the option of undoing his doings.

Yeah he said that's the plan, and I think he also mentioned that he won't do anything that's not reversible. In Matt's own words, he doesn't do "stinky old cars". This car is old but ridiculously clean.

Despite the normal stigma of modified cars selling for less money, since he's doing it as a giveaway (i.e. raffle), he usually still ends up making a profit even after the crazy money spent on modifications. And with the level and quality of work he does (or gets done) on his cars, and the amount of video documentation that goes into it, the "OG Modified" cars tend to be still be worth plenty.

Its basically another crowd-funded giveaway, just like everything you see from 80Eighty, DieselSellerz, and the like. The companies make a ton of profit from either getting sponsors to donate all of the build's parts, or selling cheap swag at expensive prices for insane profit margins.

Except OG doesn't have sponsors. He buys everything straight up. But to make the "raffle" legal, he sells merchandise to gain entries (even though technically no purchase necessary). So he ends up netting a profit even though he's "giving" the car away. Check out the BMW 1M giveaway he did last year. He was very transparent on all the costs, the car, the parts, how much stuff they sold for entries and total net profit. They even spent like 5 or 10K on attorney fees to ensure everything was legal and done right.

his plan is to modify it with all the "cool" stuff he wanted back 20 years ago when he last had one of these cars, but couldn't afford at the time. But he's only doing bolt-on stuff that can all be reversed if the winner of the car desires to.

I believe the exterior appearance will stay mostly as-is, aside from the much improved corrected paint, plus wheels, side mirrors and maybe headlights.

5 sets of wheels and tires, 3 or 4 different short shifters and bunch of shift *****. Although I gotta say, Matt holding that one 15x8 TE37 wheel with one hand, weighing in at only ~10 lbs was pretty awesome.

I hope he keeps all the stock stuff and gives it to the new owner so they can repair what he is going to do with that car .

This is where I personally draw issue. I'd rather fund my own project, rather then a slim chance to get someone else's, whilst they net a profit building it.

he has said multiple times that all the stock stuff will be included with the giveaway, and that nothing will be permanent. Other than maybe the PDR he just had done. Don't think anyone would want to put dents back into the car.

I only watched the first video and he was saying something along the lines of I don’t know how much the original engine is worth when replacing it with a b18 . I have seen comments on bat complaining about pdr. I would rather the dent fixed in my opinion.

Coming from someone who sees hundreds of cars every year have pdr done to them, pdr is the only way to go with dents. You 1000000000000000000000000x want that over even the best body work. No filler, factory metal, factory paint, factory clear, looks like it never happened and it costs between 6 to 10 times less depending on the dent.

Yeah the guy who did Matty's car was a dang artist pretty much, and charged like $800 to remove every dent on the whole car. Sooo much better to keep that original paint which was in near minty-fresh condition.

So Matt was live streaming himself in a bidding war this afternoon against a couple other people on BaT on a 5,600 mile EBP EM1, and he ended up losing out to a $50,000 bid! For a Civic!
