97 Del Sol Si boosted build. Progress and questions.
Hey all, just decided to share some progress on my first Honda/Turbo/Engine build. Started off with a free 97 Del Sol Si. 97k on the clock, disintegrated clutch and cracked pressure plate, typical PA rust, and some other issues. Pulled the D16Y8 engine and trans out, tore down the motor down and sent it off to my local machine shop to have a cleaning done as well as a bore and hone at 75mm (cylinder walls were still in good shape). SpeedFactory no notch long rods with Vitara pistons and rings. Fresh main and rod bearings, oil pump (ported with pressure increase via the washer trick), and water pump. Also did front and rear main seals obviously. Just ordered in ARP head studs, Honda OEM H/G, and some other goods to continue getting the engine back together. Starting to think about the fuel system and tuning options. I've been suggested that something like a Walboro 255 fuel pump and 450cc injectors would be sufficient for my needs (shooting for like 300 whp on pump gas). Anyone have a suggestion on good but cost efficient injectors that would fit a factory rail? Also I wanted to hear what kind of tuning options available. I see most commonly people switch to an OBD1 ecu and use something like Hondata with good results, but as I I reside in a county in PA that tests for emissions I'm kinda beat on that unless I switch everything up every time it needs inspected. Anything other options out there? Anyways here's some pics, nothing I'm sure that hasn't been seen before.

I would get at least 1000cc injectors instead of the 450's. As for the fuel pump, go 340LPH and larger. Plenty of tuning softwares….Hondata, Neptune, Crome, etc.. Do they plug into the OBD2 port to run a scan during inspections? If so tuned OBD1 ecu is out of the question. That will be a major issue because the OBD2 port will not show anything when the inspection place connects to it. Might want to rethink it before you start putting more money into the car....especially turbocharging it.

Any recommended brands to look at? Will the factory rail be sufficient? Yes, the emissions are done via a visual check, gas cap check, and through the OBD2 port. That was my main concern, knew that a typical OBD1 or 0 swap would definitely fail. There's really no more modern solutions for the OBD2 systems? Or something that's OBD2 compliant? I know the newer ecu's are basically impossible to work with, but I figured by now with how popular Honda's are, someone would have came up with something. I guess that's partially why K-swaps are so popular.

The stock fuel rail is fine. I'm using that, along with an adapter to connect to an Aeromotive FPR. For Hondas, most factory OBD2 ecu's ARE NOT tunable. That's why people use OBD1 ecu's and jumper harness for tuning options. As for K swaps, Hondata K- Pro is the way to go. PM me if you are keen on continuing with your turbo project....especially about the inspection portion.
