I bought a 1998 dx with a b16a2 Swap. And it came without an ac compressor but the bracket is still there, is it possible to get a/c back into my car? It’s getting hot here in Arizona now so I need this ASAP.
I just need to know what parts to buy, do I buy a compressor that matches the engine? Or the car?
or do I buy hoses, lines, brackets, etc. for the car or for the engine. Please let me know if anyone’s done this before. Any help is appreciated.
Are there shops that do this for reasonable price?
I work at a Hyundai dealership and have a little knowledge about engines, and basic maintenance but I work in quick lane so I mostly do oil changes and such. Is it easier to do it myself?
but mostly I just need to know what parts to get.
You will need to verify that the car did originally come with AC by checking for an AC evaporator in the dash. Remove the battery to check to see if there are 2 holes for the AC lines to the evaprator core
You will also need to check for the wiring for the compressor and fan
the compressor and two hoses/flex lines that connect it to the hard lines near the radiator bulkhead are engine specific (shop for parts that fit a 99-00 Civic Si) the rest of the system to my knowledge is shared with all trims in the range so it will be the same anyway.
side note, these parts add up quickly and some may not even be available anymore. you're best bet is to find someone parting out a car with a complete system (minus compressor and comp. hoses) or go somewhere like pull-a-part in Tucson. plan for a new compressor, new filter/dryer, new o-ring kit and new expansion valve.
