1992 Accord Wagon will not shift out of 2nd gear
My 1992 Honda Accord LX Wagon will not shift past 2nd gear. it shifts smoothly from 1st to 2nd but will not go further.
Some mechanic friends of mine believed it to be the TCU. We went to a salvage yard today and pulled a TCU from another Accord and popped it in. (We also changed the oil and replaced the battery, the battery was 8 years old)
This seemed to have KIND OF fixed the problem very briefly. After we started the car back up it was shifting smoothly from 2nd to 3rd but only while the car was set in D3. It would not shift from 3rd to 4th and it would not shift into 3rd while in D4. After a couple miles it stopped wanting to shift past 2nd again.
Neither TCU (the one originally in the car or the one from the yard) were burnt and there was no physical sign of ware that we could see or smell on the board.
Could it be that the salvaged TCU was just on its last limb? Should I get a 3rd TCU?
Is there any possibly that it could be something else? I’m stumped.

Did you try to pull any codes?
Two wire blue connector by the P.side kick panel.
Jumper the connector.
Turn ignition switch to I(ON).
Look for any flashing warning lights and record any codes.
Report back here.
Transmission functionality is greatly affected by engine running condition. There are a multitude if things that can occur, not directly related to the transmission that will affect it.
If the engine, or engine sensors, are out of spec this will affect how well the transmission shifts. Always backprobe the engine sensors to verify they are within spec.
If the thermostat is stuck open and the thermo sensor is showing cool, the transmission may not up shift into 4th.
Verify the grounds for the engine harness(thermostat housing) G101 are clean and tight.
Verify the engine grounding jumper for the engine mount G2 are clean and tight, also properly installed.
Verify the main battery to body G1 and to transmission ground cables are also clean and tight.
