I looked through the 6th gen FSM and did not see anywhere about pedal assembly removal and installation. I believe you are just going to have to get up under your dash and find the bolts and cables to undo to get the assembly out.

It can be done without removing the steering shaft, but it is so so SO much easier with that out of the way! If you remove that, make sure you have the steering wheel blocked from moving with a bungee cord or something. Don't wanna damage that clock spring inside the column!

Disconnect the throttle cable from the accelerator pedal and disconnect the brake pedal switch connector. Disconnect the rod going from the brake pedal to the brake booster. I think there will be 4 nuts around where that rod goes through the firewall, and maybe 2 or 3 nuts on the accelerator pedal side.

It's a PITA but yeah drop the column to make your life soooo much easier. A deep 12mm socket on the end of a power drill + extension + an elbow is your friend.

Not the whole column, just the intermediate shaft.

Huh. I drop the column. Like 4 bolts or nuts the underside of the dash. I don't think I even need to remove the steering column covers?? Maybe there's some nuts on the top side too. It's been so long. But yeah keep that steering wheel in place with a bungee if it doesn't lock in place already by the steering lock.

If I have to pull mine again for some reason, I will look into your way for sure. Seems like it would give more room!
I swapped my pedals out for a manual set and did a manual rack conversion at the same time. Since I had to get a different U-joint, I had pulled out the intermediate shaft and swapped the pedals at that time.
