ignition timing adjustment with obd2 scanner?
Dumb question but didnt see anything on the interwebs....cant find my timing gun...i wanna time my 2000 Civic EX. Can it be done with an OBD2 scanner that shows live data showing PID timing? Given of course the jumper is in place, timing for cam and crank is spot on, and crankshaft position sensor is working.
No, because the OBD2 scanner reading of the ignition timing depends on the ignition timing already being set correctly. To know whether the ignition timing is set correctly, you need to check it the good old fashion way --> with a timing gun.
if you don't have adjustable cam gear(s), car isn't tuned, etc....you DON'T NEED to set ignition timing with a timing gun. I will assume you have a stock motor with a typical hot air intake.

Ok that is basically what i did when i first built this engine. But i was getting lean condition codes and than all of a sudden cyl misfires across 1,2,3. Now i have blown head gasket and im kicking myself for not knowing what truly happened.
Let me clarify my last post. Lean codes due to blown gasket, im wondering if i had it retarded too much and caused of too much heat that killed cheap DNJ head gasket?
