So I have a 96 civic dx 5 speed. I believe I have already confirmed the issue however I would like to get yalls opinion. As the title says my Speedo works when it wants to. I have hooked up my diag tool and watched the live data and seen where the computer is getting a speed signal. To me that says that my cluster needs to be replaced. Is there anything I might have missed? Kinda new to Hondas.

 

The board on the back of the speedometer has been known to go bad. I have replaced two so far with a board from another speedo to fix successfully.

 

Gotcha. Imma have to find another cluster. I planned on replacing it with one that has a tach but I guess I'll have to find it sooner rather than later.

 

Another fix which can be found on You tube, is resoldering the contacts from the speedo to the circuit board
