Engine swap problems '05 civic into a '01
So first off, hello everybody. I am a complete noob to the art of the engine swap. I had a wrecked '05 civic EX and a 2001 Ex coupe. The '05 had a nice rebuilt VTEC 1.7L w/ Auto Tranny and the 2001 was purchased with the engine and tranny removed. After what I thought was extensive research, I attempted the swap. Pulled everything out through the top, dropped it in, hooked everything up and it fired up. Threw a TCC failure code and replaced the corresponding solenoid. It was shifting sluggish and called a transmission shop. He asked if I had swapped the ECU, as well. Of course, this had escaped me. Like I said I'm a noob and yes I feel like an idiot. So my question is, can an '04/'05 ECU be swapped into a 2001? Can a '05 ECU work in a 2001? I understand now that there is a difference in o2 sensors and this could require rewiring? Any suggestions, advice, criticism and/or jokes are to be accepted
What would you do at this point? Any help would be vastly appreciated. Thanks!

im not much help; but maybe check out the ecu pin outs for both model cars. see what is missing and needed. not sure for hondas are o2 for both cars wideband or narrow?
or if they make a plug and play aftermarket ecu see if part numbers for both are the same.
sorry not much help here. last time I had a honda, eg civics just started selling in the use.
