Hello everyone, here's the story behind my car.... I'll try to keep this short... (NOTE: after writing this all out, its definitely not short... sorry for the wall of text... and pictures... LOL)
Ever since i can remember, I've always been stupid into cars, by the time i was 12 I had already saved up $300, my father throwing in the other $300 to make it $600, and bought a '67 Ford pickup as a project truck. By the time it was time for me to get my license I was in the middle of swapping the truck body over to the newer "panther" chassis, the truck was nowhere near being drivable.... But there was a 550k mile '94 DX hatch down the street from me for sale, for about $700, after some work flipping a couple smaller things (buying broken lawnmowers, repairing, and selling), I had saved up the money, went and stopped up by the house the car was sitting at, and convinced them to sell it to me for $400, and drove it the mile or so home... Here's the only picture i can find of it. completely unmolested and still at the original owners house.
this was the beginning of summer so i had about 3 months to get it to where i wanted it before school started. My whole plan was sleeper.... I went to walmart, bought what I needed, and spray painted the car with primer. (not sure what I was thinking honestly, could have just left the faded red)... Next thing was a motor, I knew the original motor was junk and ran horrible, so I found a JDM D15B on craigslist and swapped that in, and drove it like that for a while, still super slow, while doing the saving and trading to end up with a b16 to put in the old girl.... Swapped that in, boosted it. car was insane, especially for a highschool kid. honestly was pretty stupid and could have killed me multiple times....
Then it was time to move on, I sold the car, completely forgetting about it once i found out that the guy who had it after me parted it out. I guess I figured it was fairly destroyed....
Fast forward to 3/25/2019, A guy I know from school who was not into cars at all, asks me if id be willing to put a motor in his EK sedan, since he cant afford for a real shop to do it, and i was the only person he knew that knew about hondas... I say yes and we start looking for a motor on Facebook marketplace... and I come across this ad, posted only 7 hours before... I was freaking out... that was my old car.....
I asked about the EG in the picture and the dude saud he would not sell it whole only part out.... but the guy ended up having the D16Y7 from a EK that would work for the friends car... so we met up anyways...
Either way, we get there, and buy the motor, I figure now that we've put some money in the dudes pocket, maybe he will come off of it.... and for WAY more than I should have paid... my old car was once again... Mine... with a catch.... it didn't come with the wheels...
And then I realized... I had 5 project cars at the time... and was going to probably get killed if I brought home another... so I called a friend and asked if it could get brought down to his farm and sit on blocks until I had some other projects done and the time to take on a rebuild of the scale that the car needed.... and on 3/29/2019, we towed it down to my buddy's farm and put it up on blocks and there it sat. up until now...
2/12/2019, I decide it was time to build the hatch, went and bought some teggy wheels and went down to the farm to put them on it... and jeez did it look worse than i remember.... (don't question the spray painted 2D wide body, we were messing around and didn't care since it needed a full body/paint job anyways and thought it was funny when we first brought the car down there)....
I bought a LS swap off a buddy and have been collecting a few other things for the build, towing the car down to the shop on sunday 2/16/2020... so progress will start then, along with better pictures...
Plan for the car is get it running and driving just stock LS, find the missing interior bits, and cut out the hack quarter panel repair and replace with new metal, and then possibly (might just leave it the ratty look, not sure yet) bodywork/paint the car before boosting the LS and hurting late model cars feelings...
Going to be a slow build as currently the only days I have free to work on the car will be Sundays... but hopefully it'll be drivable in the next 2 months or so...
Sadly didn't really get anything done besides moving the car to my buddys shop where we will be doing the work (hes doing some of the work as part of a trade for some truck parts). The engine is going out to the machine shop sometime this week and trans out to the trans shop. not sure when theyll be back though since its race season. But we'll see... Guess it means next sunday will be spent shaving the engine bay and maybe starting on welding in the new quarters though! cant wait to not have the hack body filler quarters anymore.
Havent had much time to work on the car, motor is back from machine shop and trans is back from getting rebuilt but thats where we are at as far as my car. have to assemble the engine still. Did pick up a junk teggy with a buddy that im going to be helping swap the LS into his EK coupe, getting the GSR seats and dash out of it for my car along with some other little things I need.
Yeah, she was f****d, but it wasnt much of a loss, what you cant see in the pictures is how bad the teggy was, like 2" of bondo on the rear left quarter, paint had so many runs it almost looked like the car just had gallons of blue paint dumped on it, there were spots where runs were 1/4" higher than the paint next to it, ebay camber arm on the drivers rear side actually snapped in half from the force of the pole hitting it, not really many good parts besides the swap and the GSR front seats and the leather rear seat. (hopefully the rear can be used in my car from what ive read?)
