B20B all motor build and swap into 97 HB
Hello again,
After some very helpful advice on my last question, about a donor 92 integra with a b18a1 and how it was illegal and would be too much work and money to put into my car, the same friend found a different 92 integra that has already been B20B, says it's the B20B JDM, swapped that he is going to bring down next weekend. I already have a set of stainless 4-2-1 headers and I'm going to buy a cheap 4.5" full catback exhaust to complete the exhaust, and keep my carbon fiber cold air intake, and I have already placed the CRV AC bracket and 2 post driver side bracket, as well as the civic SI T bracket in a cart ready to be ordered. So that should be all that I need to complete the swap.
so my new question is for the compression, I want to have the head rebuilt and use crower stage 2 cams with adjustable gears (any recommendations as to the best gears for the money, or even if stock will cut it) and his double valve spring/steel retainer kit, and have the head ported and polished and a 3 angle valve job and replace the valve seals and whatnot, and was wondering if I should have them mill the head, and if so how much would get me where I need but not run any risk of valves kissing pistons lol, I've read 0.040 and dont really know whats enough/too much, and also what head gasket I should run with the mill.
I know the stock compression is anywhere between 8.8-9.6 depending on the vehicle the engine came from, and I would like it to be closer to 10, or higher, again looking for recommendations to get the most out of these cams and the stock motor.
I dont really have any HP goals, as this will be my 2nd daily driver and not a track car, but the y7 at 106hp just isn't cutting it lol. So I would be ecstatic to see anywhere from 160 to 180HP.
I won't have the car until next weekend so I wont have any info on the engine or trans until then, but when I get it I will research the head intake and tranny.
I dont think I want to spend the extra money on an aftermarket intake manifold or throttle body, I believe with the exhaust system and the head work and a tune I can easily achieve the 160-180 mark.
Please give me any advice at all, I will happily take it all in. Thank you guys so much, there were several great comments on the last thread I posted. And look forward to more on this one!

If your dead set on using the cams and porting the LS head then go for it But a stock B18 or even a B20 with mild bolt ons and a good tune will feel real good and have plenty of power for the hatch. Save the money on porting the head but if you already have the cams you might need to port the head to give more flow but then that will in turn leave you needing to supply a better flowing manifold and throttle body to accommodate the ported head.. Im not familiar with non vtec cam gears but skunk2 is a known brand that might have them available.

the donor vehicle arrived, and it is a 1990 integra GS 5SPD that was partially B20B swapped. So it's a cable tranny and apparently a cable speedo. Just wanted to know if this can work out in my 97 hatch that's a hydro with electric speedo? I know I can get cable to hydro conversion kit for like $120, but will this cable speedo work? Without me breaking the bank trying to make it? Or should I just try and sell it and be on the lookout for a newer trans? Like s80 or something like that?
also looking into a skunk manifold and 68mm throttle body.
probably still going to have the head rebuilt and maybe ported just to increase flow some. But I can't afford the cams right now. This will allow me to make sure the innards look alright, and to use a slightly thinner head gasket to increase cr.
Awesome advice. I've got some extra Bill's for a little while so I'm probably going to go more of a budget route.

Sell it and buy a Hydro GSR trans! LS is a cheaper alternative but longer gears and a B16 trans would be a bit more fun if you ask me! short gear ratio with a B20 in a light hatch will be fun to drive. Even more if you get one with a LSD or even better a Type R trans!
