There's a hole in the crank flange and in the flywheel, like a pin would align them, but there's no pin. I don't see one on my parts site but the manual references one in installing the flywheel. There were a a lot of missing things on this engine so...?
Thanks!

He's talking manual transmission side of the crank. Many flywheels have a hole that lines up with a hole on the crang flange that holds either a flywheel or the flex plate.
I've never seen a pin on my 5th gens, doubt it's in the 6th gens but could be mistaken.

The pin is found on F/H applications... but for B,D,K applications, manufacturers create the small dowel hole for two purposes: 1) They use it as an index point during machining to properly create the other holes needed in the flywheel. 2) When your machinist balances your COMPLETE rotating assembly, he can mark the end of your crankshaft through the dowel hole so that you can reference that position during engine assembly.

Thanks for the help! In looking for pics or videos it took a long time to find even one like mine but that didn't have any pin either, just the holes.

Was thinking maybe for balance but indexing def makes more sense.
