Default Timming belt loose and jump time

So put back my belt on and noticed the “right side” was looose but the left was tight, I got it both tight and started it up and ran fine then clunk and shut off, set to tdc and cam is way off and both sides are loose as a goose, what could cause something like this and what are your recommendations , it’s a d16z6

If the belt isn't new get a new one and also replace the old tensioner with a new one and with a new spring.

it’s a new set up only thing that is used is the spring, you think I should go ahead and get new tension and spring?

I'm not sure why you didn't get a new tensioner but you should've. Also the belt has to be specific to your engine or else you'll have slack issues.

If that kit did not come with a new spring it was either accidentally missing or that company is into a little cheapo malpractice. Get a different kit. I can't remember what I bought or I'd tell you. I have about 65k miles on a kit I bought at O'Reilly's.

The spring doesn't really do any thing. You need to undo the bolt and rotate the crank to put slack on the water pump side of the belt that gets takin up by adjusting your tensioner pulley upwards. I always use my hand to push up on the tensioner. A belt only wears and gets looser as it ages

The spring helps to properly adjust the belt during installation. If you rather manually push against the tensioner well more power to ya.

Yeah. I get the spring its just not a strong spring

Youre suppose to rotate the crank several times so that the crank pulley pulls down on the cam gear and as a result the tensioner behind the crank sprocket pulls up on the spring and gets rid of any slack

My reason for using a finger to push up on the pulley with the spring is that the tensioner doesn't use just a spring. It makes you tighten a bolt afterwards.

Cut me a break ive rebuilt like 5 dsm's which have. 3 different tensioner arms and a hydraulic tensioner. I'm also ocd and measured belt slack with fishing scale.
