Default 4” downpipe question

For all you folks running a top mount with a 4” downpipe how are you cooling the radiator? Pusher fan or puller fan? Car now has a pusher fan on it but it kinda heats creeps. I was thinking of getting a SPAL 13” pusher and giving it a shot since there isn’t much room for a pulled unless i may go to a 12” fan. I also will be wrapping the downpipe to keep temps in the bay down. Thanks for the help.

Could also try turning the fan on sooner. Also don’t know what brand you have now but a spal makes a big difference for me as the flow a lot of air.

I use a 12 inch puller with a 4 inch up pipe. You could also use a 3 inch down pipe which would give you a little more room.

From what I've read recently (also looking into controlling heat) there are a few options/steps.
-Ensure you have a quality rad with no leaks and a quality fan
-Wrap and/or ceramic coat everything possible
-Keep your fan running constantly below like ~80-90mph (Although this is with a puller, don't know if it matters here)
-Shroud all openings around radiator
-If puller fitment is an issue, you can purchase a radiator to tuck under your radiator support, although this involves some fab obviously.

I second a Spal fan. Don't cheap out with those crappy ones for $20. The airflow is nothing compared to one of a SPAL.

What power are you putting down? 4" isn't really beneficial until you get around the 800(?)+WHP mark.

Wrapping both the manifold and downpipe needs to be done.

It will be around 800 sir. Also not going up pipe because it’s a street car also i refuse to cut my carbon hood lol. I will be cerakoting the manifold and downpipe as well. It heat creeped on the dyno but haven’t drove it on the street just yet.

I was using a 3 inch up pipe until 1100 whp with no issues, I only went with a 4 inch because that's what my exhaust housing vband was setup for.

Cerakote is a good idea as well. If all else fails and you still have fitment issues with the radiator/fan (a puller fan will ALWAYS be better than a push, especially when used with a proper shroud, but I know on setups like yours fitment and space become huge issues) you could consider either looking into the SpeedFactory tucked radiator setup as a possible solution, or trying to do a 3.5" -> 4" flared section of the downpipe before it goes under the car to give a bit more wiggle room.

I was actually looking into the speed factory tucked radiator kit but my intercooler is a back door style which wouldn’t work 🤦🏻‍♂️. I’ve thought about their smaller trucked kits but i don’t believe they would work good on a street car.

Their tucked radiators are garbage, every car I've seen with those radiators have over heating issues, hell even drag strip only cars still have heat issues with it.

It's not that expensive here, Full Race did my up pipe, manifold and dumptube for like $150 but they are local so no shipping or any of that. It works very well, and keeps things cool to the touch.

Yeah I’ll be sending the manifold and downpipe to get collated for sure. I’m trying to get some measurements in this weekend and see how much space I’ll have for a SPAL puller fan then go from there i guess.

The ceramic coating is so good that you can touch the manifold and DP and it's cool to the touch?? Seriously?

No. that's not the point of the coating.

I’m just trying to keep the heat out of the bay and away from my radiator haha i don’t mind to wait for the manifold and downpipe to cool off before working on it.
