Hello everyone. I came across a 98 Civic EX for a great deal and I have questions I cant seem to find answers to whether it be from a google search or by searching the forums. I plan on building this car up a bit and I need to know at what point Im starting from. I have looked and determined that my engine is definitely a D16Y8. Identifying that was a piece of cake. The car has a 5 speed manual and I was wondering which model of transmission came stock with a 98 Civic EX. I have looked at posts in multiple forums, even one in another forum that lists types of transmissions and its just confusing at this point. So can anyone help me? What is the model number of 5 speed transmission that came stock in this car (the stock transmission is still in it).

Thanks. I couldnt find anything using VIN decoders or written on it that indicated any numbers people were mentioning.

 

This should help you locate the code on your transmission.

 

Just above the trans fill hole there is a circle with stamp, about the size of a quarter, should say b000, this would mean Ex trans “short” gears.

 

Thanks guys. I checked where muellersfan told me to, and it says "s40". Ill check that circle on my next day off when I have time.
