cannot unlock steering wheel; lock cylinder repaired
Hi!
I have a 2004 accord that's having some trouble. A couple days ago my key would only go halfway into the ignition. I removed the lock cylinder of the ignition and took it to a locksmith and they were able to repair it so the key inserts and turns. However, in the initial process of removing the cylinder, the steering wheel was bumped and locked up. After re-installing the lock cylinder, I have been unable to disengage the steering wheel lock. I have done all the jiggling, turning the wheel in the direction with some give and turning the key, etc. It will not budge. Removed the screws to see if it was improperly reinstalled and tried again, still no luck.
Does anyone know possible causes for the lock and how to fix it?
I am wondering if I might need a whole new ignition assembly. And if this is the case, am I able to use my old and just-repaired lock cylinder with a new assembly so I do not have to reprogram keys? (If so, can I purchase it without the cylinder?)
Are there other possible causes to the problem? I don't want to replace the ignition if that's not where the problem is.
Thank you for any help, insight, stories, or pointers!

Interesting development: Now when I open the car door, the car starts making the "key left in the ignition" beeps, even though my key is removed. It was not doing this before, but developed after I made some more attempts at inserting the key and trying to unlock the wheel. Unplugging one of the wire sets from the cylinder ceases the beeping. Not sure if this could be related or offer any clues as to what's going on.
