Easykey
I found online a company that offers a “EasyKey Maker” that programs chip keys. It is $38 USD. Or I can pay a locksmith $50/per key. Anyone tried it? Is it worth the purchase?
Doesn't seem like a bargain if you have to pay a locksmith anyway to get your key cut. Just find a competent locksmith or take it to your local Honda dealer.
I went to a local chain hardware store to have just a spare door key made as they were out of the blanks with the chips. Two different people made 3 keys, none worked. My key was quite dull being 20 years old which may have been why. If they could make a chip key I believe it was going to be around $80. Brought the car to a Honda dealership where they cut a new chip key based on the VIN. Works perfectly - for $37.12.
On a different somewhat related note - my key fob fell apart and I couldn't find the membrane with the buttons. The same hardware store did have one replacement fob only with the buttons. It was pricey at $20, but did come with a battery although I bought one last year.

I think in most cases the tool isn't going to be savings for one key. I have kids and those guys have bent and broken and lost keys, so for me having a device like that is helpful, as I can get a blank for $10 and have spare keys for everyone as well when something happens.
A good locksmith is nice to find.
