Default My Low-mileage 88 CRX Si.

Hey, Neat to see H-T still around, I used to post here a decade ago. I just got back into the Honda scene at it seems like Facebook is where the forum action is now.

If you haven't seen my car on FB, I figured I'd post here to share it.

Stock 1988 Canadian-spec CRX Si currently sits with 12,817 kms(just under 8000 miles) All orig. down to the oem tires(no I dont drive on them)

Engine bay appears black due to the car being undercoated at the dealer in 1988. Being a Canadian car, the owner had orig. planned on using the car in the winter but never did.

I bought it recently from the orig owner that lived approx. 1 hour from me. I'm so happy to have another CRX!

That car is amazing. BAT grade indeed. I would be afraid to even touch it.

Ew, Facebook, eeeew.

Nice
Has it always been gareaged all that time? If so a gem for sure. Last year a 91 came up on ebay with 25k original, and that one had been left out in the desert sun for the last 20 some years and it was baked to death.
If yours was garaged, awesome. If climate controlled storage, even that much better.
Honda Museum needs to look at it. Or sell it for a Million to a chinese repro company to buld 10k more of em, exact.
probably puts my 41k mile to shame in a few ways.
only thing i spy incorrect is the radiator stay rubber biscuits, those are incorrect.
Oh andyours is a non AC model too. so a downfall

Are they the Pirelli P6 tires? I still have 2 of them from my very first crx.

It has been garaged since day 1, not climate controlled but you'd never know it. The original owner never even drove it in the rain. He always put a towel on the drivers seat when he drove it. It was definitely babied and it shows.
Not sure what you mean about the rad grommets, they are definitely orig. Even the timing belt is orig. Owner never changed ANYTHING but fluids.
Tires are Yokohama. Orig equipment in Canada in 1988.
Yeah no AC is kinda crappy but with this car, at this stage, it doesn't matter.
Biggest issue is the undercoating on the car, but it is removable, sadly I'd probably have to pull the motor to get rid of it all.

And Honda museum? I think they already have one.

Very awesome car. I'm glad I'm starting out the new year getting to look at pictures of this beauty! One thing though...I wouldn't consider the timing belt being original a good thing. Those things age over time as they are a rubber belt and will dry out. They can also "deform" if the engine's isn't being rotated as it's sitting in the same position, one end wrapped around the cam gear and the other wrapped around the crank sprocket.

Thanks for the compliments. With regards to the Timing Belt, I just mentioned it in reference to how orig. the car is. I've already purchased a new one from Honda and will be changing it soon, as well as a WP and all the fluids. This is my 5th CRX, I'm fairly experienced. :-) but I appreciate the heads up and it's always worth mentioning.

Wow, what a find. Would love to see more pics if you get a chance, especially of the interior.

Here's some interior pics, sorry, the lighting in my garage sucks. Don't mind the shift ****, I have the stock one on now. And there is a radio, it's a period correct Denon but I love the Honda radio delete plate. The floormats are just there to save the carpet, I've already bought a set of OEM CRX floormats. They need a bit of restoration but they're pretty good. The pics make the seats look funny, they are in perfect condition

Thank you for posting this! What an amazing find to still have with such low millage.

As for the forums dying to Facebook: I think that is slowly coming full circle. People went to FB, now since it is dying (thank god) people are coming back to the forums. I really hope to see the day they are fully active again.

when i bought mine it had 27k on it that was almost 10 years ago. I changed my T-belt when it had around 38k on it i think, would have to look it up for sure. It had the original belt. I left the water pump alone since it didn't show sigs of seepage. I adjusted the valves, but and was able to re-use the valve cover gasket since it wasnt even hard yet. I did drain and fill the coolant with oem Honda Coolant. Now I just long term store the car, putting a battery in it every so often and running it up to temp and around the block, and get it out on a paved road up to speed once a year for a few miles to circulate the gas, run the AC a little to engage the compressor etc, but I always top the gas off with non-ethanol before i park and cover it.

Its a hard thing to have such a nice one that too afraid to park anywhere, etc. I am looking at mine as an investment long term like my old Malibu SS was.

I'm so tempted to drive mine come spring. But Im afraid its just lowering the value. Part of me wants to keep it for 20 years but part of me wants to lower it with a set of TE37's and drive it. I'm sure it'll be worth plenty one day, but theyre so fun to drive!!

Wow, carpet that is still plush and isn't threadbare. Definitely a beaut!

I love the bilingual CDM cluster - I've got one in my ED3, but swapped out the odometer with one that tracks in miles.

Score! Did you need it? If you scored and could use money for another project. Email pictures of it to a Japanese car dealership. Left hand drive is cool in Japan

damn that things really clean. i recently picked up an 89 crx si from the original owners son. mine is the flint black color, still has the oem timing belt by the way the previous owner talked. it’s got just under 91k original miles too, completely stock and garaged it’s entire life. i drove it home, parked it in the garage, and it’s been sitting till i get it in to the honda dealer for them to do the timing belt/water pump etc. never personally owned a crx before, but have rode in a few.

Taking a museum-quality, OEM original, and super low mileage Si and lowering it with new rims is complete sacrilege! Put it back to stock. This is why there are so few good Hondas of this era because you people can't just leave them alone!

if people were to just leave cars alone there would be no progress in the car world

we would all still be running on steam

Car looks awesome man. You think you'll ever put a radio in it, or just roll with the delete plate?

It already has an old school Denon pull-out deck. I don't really listen to music much when I drive so I just put the delete plate in.

dude i love it on the rpf1’s, looks so good. my interior is identical lol. previous owner had an alpine HU installed ghetto af so i pulled it a few weeks back and threw the delete plate in there. looks much cleaner in my opinion. LOVE driving it too btw, i just hardly do cause i’m always busy working.
