Should I replace the friction plate on this findanza? I'm doing stage 2 competition clutch on 94' civic. I got mixed search results about weather to sand it, scuff it, get it resurfaced, ect... A new plate is $100.
The guy at the machine shop said he didn't recommend resurfacing these. Something about the step-down measurement between the height of the friction plate and the outer edge where the clutch cover bolts to. Basically, if you resurface the friction plate, the gap the clutch fits in is wider, and the clutch can slip well before it should.
You can mill the edge, but that's probably not a good idea for strength.
I can't tell from the picture but if it isn't worn down lower than the places where the disk doesn't touch, you could just run it.
If you machine the flywheel you also have to cut down the area where the clutch cover seats to, so the overall thickness inside is the same. There is only a couple of mm difference between new and worn out. As the others said this setup is designed to bolt on a new friction area.
