Default K24 Timing Chain Too Tight?

Car is a 2011 Accord with K24Z2
I was replacing VTC actuator and without realizing it, the pin I inserted to lock the chain tensioner (near the crank pulley) slipped out. When I pulled the timing chain off the intake cam, it immediately ratched up probably 5-6 "clicks" before I could stop it. After putting the new VTC actuator on the intake cam I was able to wiggle the cam back in despite the chain being much tighter. However, the end of the cams were not sitting down on the valves because the chain was so tight. I then (very carefully) began putting the camshaft holders on and managed to get them all torqued properly. The chain was really tight.

I tried cranking the engine both clockwise and counterclockwise in hopes of adding some slack to the chain, but I don't think that worked.

The car runs great with no engine lights, but I'm worried the cam chain is too tight. I can hear a faint "whine" noise when revving the engine which I don't remember hearing before. Do you guys know if it's possible to compress the tensioner without taking the whole chain cover off? Or will this self-adjust on its own?

In case anyone else runs into this...
I fixed the issue by sticking a pin in the tensioner, then removing the two bolts that hold it in (without removing the chain cover). I then pried the tensioner out of the hole in the cover, removed the pin, compressed the tensioner piston, stuck the pin back in, and re-installed it. The whining went away and the chain is no longer too tight.
