Default Violent redline cutoff at 7-7,200 rpm with b16

Hey guys, so I have a 1994 eg6 with a first gen b16 and an ls tranny. I got the swap done a while back ago. My problem is that every time Im doing some “spirited” driving, I try taking it to what the redline should be which I believe is 8200. Every time I try to do this, my redline bounces off 7k really violently. I’m using the word “bounce” loosely because it hits off that line and just doesn’t even stay there, it falls down dramatically. My oil level is good, vtec turns on, and my tuner gave me a base map of a b16 so he said that’s not the issue, what could it be?

Possibly inaccurate tachometer. what speeds are you hitting in 1st 2nd and 3rd at the "7k redline"

Mmm I’m not sure, but i know it’s accurate only because when I hit 7k, the rpms fall down to like 4K with my foot still all the way down on the pedal and not shifting. Like the engine just gives out essentially

Sounds like instead of rev limiter it's doing a fuel cutoff instead.

Sounds to me like your tune is causing grief and isn't as perfect as you would like to believe.

I have this same problem on a stock b16, but it doesn’t happen everytime.
