Default D16y7 main bearing confusion

So I’m rebuilding a d16y7 145k miles and the colors on the main bearings don’t match the colors from the code I got. The colors on the actual bearings are yellow red yellow red yellow. The color from the code goes yellow red pink red pink. What do I do? Follow the block and crank code or color match ?

Use the ones actually installed as a guideline; plastiguage those clearances and adjust as necessary! I like how Honda color coded their engine bearings but, it CAN be confusing as fck. You've got a huge chance of success with a set of clevite standards, done and done.

Those also don't look like factory markings. It looks like the block had the factory stamp ground off and someone used an engraver and hand engraved deeply their letters.

Unless Honda changed their habit the next generation, that looks far from factory in my experience.

^^ Yeah, those are engraved, not stamped.

Yeah I know very sketchy. I ordered the bearings from the code I got. I sent the block and crank to the machine shop to measure all clearances so he can tell me if the ones from the code will work or not. Still waiting on the call.

Update! So I did a clutch replacement on a 99 civic cx with a d16y7 and the block code looked the same engraved writing. Is this coincidence? The machine shop also told me clearance are within spec and I’m good to go on reassembly.

I just looked at my garbage block and saw the same thing, not as deep but same style B and all.

Looks like these are hand engraved at factory, but your's looks hella deep compared to mine.

I'm going to toss a guess out there that they had a new guy measure and mark your block, then when it was checked by the old timer, it was found to be wrong. So old timer grinds off original engraving from the new guy and then old timer deeply engraves accurate measurement markings so there is no doubt.
