Default Gen 6 Accords availability in salvage yards?

The fan control **** broke on my '99 Accord. I looked online, prices average around $9 for a replacement. I recall years ago Radio Shack would have an assortment of 3 or so ***** for < $5. I still have some of those on hand, will see if I have one similar to the broken ****. Would there typically be some Gen 6 Accords around in a salvage yard? Haven't had a reason to check yet. Last time I looked for something it was for my 2002 Subaru Forester - what was in the yard had everything worthwhile stripped from them.

It's a minor situation, but the interior of the car is in very good shape for it's age. Hardly any signs of wear on the seat. I may try to fix the existing ****, the inside shaft broke. Happened last night, today I'll see if I can find the piece. A week ago I thought the fan wouldn't go to the high setting - now I know it was in fact the shaft starting to break.

At the right junkyard, you would likely find a wrecked 98-02 with interior parts like that. When inspecting the bad ****, make sure the metal sleeve comes off with it. If not, be sure to pull that off the stud before trying to push the replacement **** onto the stud. I super glued one of my buttons quite a while ago and it has held up perfectly. Good glue and patient clamping until fully dry and cured did the trick. The other button cracked in two or more places, so I got one off eBay. The junkyards I have access to have so many cars jammed in that it's hard to get to particular ones. It wasn't worth crawling around in that mess to save $5 or less.

The metal sleeve must be what's missing/broke off. I'll look at the temp. control **** for reference. assuming it's the same. I was also thinking of using glue to repair it. Yea it's probably not worth the time and effort to go to a junkyard. If I can't fix it I'll buy one online. It is somewhat annoying at night - the light behind the **** is bright. I may temporarily put a **** that I have on hand. Those have set screws, so not sure it the metal shaft will be long enough.

The shaft on the back of the **** will crack on a Gen 5. You can find a nylon sleeve in the small parts section of Lowes that will slide over it and hold it in place. Use a little epoxy to keep it tight and in place and it will be fine. Or just get another from the pick-and-pull.

I'll keep that part in mind at Lowes or another hardware store.
