Where can I buy another intake resonator for a 1999 Accord 2.3l?
Also, how the heck do you remove Gorilla Tape?! I drove through a snowstorm two years ago, didn't have heat, figured that the thermostat was stuck open, and had already ordered one and planned on replacing it when I changed the timing belt. The Gorilla Tape was supposed to be temporary, but it has survived snowstorms and high-pressure carwashes.
Gorilla Tape is amazing!
Back to today's damage, you can see a couple of bricks on the left. I managed to catch the edge of the bumper on that retaining wall and it peeled right off. You can see the top of the destroyed resonator. What the heck did I do to that?!
I bought the car three years ago and the right front tire blew up while on a road trip. It damaged the door, fender, bumper, headlight, headlight wiring, and resonator. I replaced all of it for under $200. The resonator was $35 from LKQ, but now I cannot find it on their website or car-part.com and I am a couple of hours from a junkyard; it would cost at least $90 to order a replacement and take two weeks.
The bumper should reattach with new fasteners.new fasteners.

You don't. It removes you.
Actually haven't looked into it myself. Have used it for temporary aero mods, tape comes off easy enough when it is warm out. Not so much when cold.
If left on too long the glue turns into a mortar.
I've read warm soap and water works, HAH! Not for me.
Acetone will remove just about anything, but you will want to spot test it on painted surfaces.

That is really an air intake muffler, not the helmholtz resonators that are in the intake track. You can leave it off for now. Worst thing that may happen is under heavy throttle you may hear a bit more engine noise.

Aero mods, eh? Please tell me more.
How warm does it need to be? I live in Arizona!
People keep telling me that orange cleaner works, but I feel like it needs to soak for a while. How exactly do you soak a bumper in orange cleaner?
I keep wanting to try vacuum bagging.
I just need to remove the bumper. It is being held on by one clip, but I need to fix my car so I can drive to work.
I sent Gorilla Glue an e-mail, but I think that was about their hot glue. My brother is an adult with autism and he started walking on my hood and roof, leaving footprints. I used hot glue dent removal to pull the dents (partially), but only Gorilla Glue hot glue was strong enough. However, I couldn't get it off! I kept spraying it with 91% isopropyl alcohol and scraping with a plastic scraper, but eventually I realized that I was scratching the paint, but there was also a spot where the Gorilla glue hot glue pulled off the paint!
Thanks for the number!
I drove the car for a little while without the resonator until I could replace it before. I was surprised, it was noticeably louder, and I liked it, but I replaced the resonator as soon as I could.
Can I just install the pipes that go inside of the resonator to make sure that nothing gets sucked in?
Re: Where can I buy another intake resonator for a 1999 Accord 2.3l?
You have two questions here. One is how to remove gorilla tape. For most tape residue and other glue-like stuff, I use peanut butter. I have used it on tape, on glue-residue left over from tape, on other sticky stuff, and it works almost all the time. Put it on, let it set for awhile - on some things, 15 minutes is enough time, but best is probably overnight. You may have to do it multiple times. I had one app where every application of peanut butter (and letting it sit overnight) caused a little more to come off - it took me about two weeks to get the 'goo' off this flat plastic part I had. But bottom line, it got it off.
As for your second question - the resonator. Dealers can get the part. Some dealers are pretty fair with their customers, other less so. You can go to hondapartsnow.com or other honda parts websites to get the retail price of parts (and their discounted prices). With that info, you can inquire intelligently at the dealer about the part and tell if the price they are asking is reasonable. My experience with our local dealer is that it depends on who is at the parts counter that day. I have been quoted prices over 2X the retail price, by others I have been given prices slightly above the retail, which was fair since I did not have to pay for shipping. If the dealer is not reasonable, then one of the honda parts sites on the Internet may be worth looking at. The two-hour drive to your salvage yard might be worth it if they have several models of your car, increasing the chance they have the part you need. Body parts in good shape at a salvage yard are typically a good deal.
Re: Where can I buy another intake resonator for a 1999 Accord 2.3l?
Since the Gorilla Tape is on my front bumper, I want to remove all of it at once, so that I do not need to worry about it on the highway. People usually recommend something like an orange cleaner. I want something that will penetrate, but not need to be reapplied throughout the day, and while I live in Arizona, I live in the mountains, where it has already snowed.
I do not think that leaving anything on overnight would do much.
My previous plan was to remove the bumper, place it face down on a plastic dropcloth, dump WD-40, orange cleaner, or whatever in the middle, duct-tape the edges together, and vacuum-bag it.
I should definitely do that in the garage, not the driveway...
I did... fix... the bumper, but I did not address the gorilla tape, as it was I was late for work on Monday. I had a plastic welder from a previous project, but it stopped working. Hot air plastic welders seem like a bad idea. It was late Saturday night and only Walmart was open. I did not think their soldering irons would be adequate, so I bought a wood burner with a larger tip, which fell off while I was working. I tried to weld the plastic pieces together, but they did not hold. However, I bought a metal drywall screen, cut it to fit, melted the bumper to it, and then melted plastic from a school folder on top.
Both are polypropylene.
The folder created some super high spots, which I tried to remove with a sander. Also, I did not realize that I should cut the mesh a little smaller than the patch so that the edges are hidden.
Well, it is attached! I will try to blend in the patches on each side of the headlight:

Acetone will remove most anything. Glue, paint, etc. Careful how much of it you use. And brake fluid will too. But, again, I can't say that I recommend it.
Re: Where can I buy another intake resonator for a 1999 Accord 2.3l?
I was finally able to visit Pull-A-Part near Phoenix and I bought a resonator for $20. However, the Gorilla Tape is still there. I tried WD-40, orange cleaner, and three other products, four or five times each, over 24 hours, and it just got dirty.
Re: Where can I buy another intake resonator for a 1999 Accord 2.3l?
If you are careful, and only use small amounts, enough to cut the glue residue, you can do it without damaging the bumper. Keep a pan of detergent and water nearby to get the remaining acetone off. It is worth a try if all else fails.
Re: Where can I buy another intake resonator for a 1999 Accord 2.3l?
I'll go back to what I said earlier. Peal the tape off as best you can, then apply peanut butter to remove the glue. You will need to let the peanut butter sit for awhile, 15 minutes might be enough, I usually let it sit a few hours or overnight). From your posts above you mentioned you don't want to do the peanut butter thing. That was several weeks ago. Maybe if you had tried it, you would have been done by now.
I won't say peanut butter will remove all kinds of glues, but in my experience it has removed probably 95-99% of the ones I have tried it on, and it has never damaged or stained the plastic, metal, glass, or whatever that I applied it to. One can remove the peanut butter with a paper towel or with warm water. The peanut butter will soften the glue so it can be wiped off. Usually one is done after one application, sometimes a second is needed.
I have only had one app where I had to apply it multiple times - in this case I had to apply the p.b. maybe 10 times over the course of two weeks to remove a cellophane-like protective covering on some plastic - the cellophane had been left on too long. In the end, however, it got it off and left no scratches, stains, or blems on the plastic underneath it. If I had used acetone, it almost certainly would have blemished the plastic.
